Joe Milton and a 7th for Dallas 5th.

Last year Dallas traded a 4th for Trey Lance

So Dallas moves down from 171 or 174

to

NE top of round 7 pick 217 or 220.

… The value is basically top of round 6 pick

Patriots should have just kept him…
that is a terrible return.

Maybe, if he progress into a solid backup or more than yes.
If not, then they sold at the right time, based off one game performance.

Dallas just got younger by six years at back up vs copper rush.

Also wouldn’t see mean the Pats trust thier starting QB that much now?

I’m leaning towards this not being better for the Pats…

And does this sound like the first crack in Dallas trust of Dak?

I took it as the Patriots know what they have and don’t have in Milton.

I get that… I always say I really don’t know and only have an opnion not factual statement

Add in they picked up brisket as a back up and tumor Joe wanted to go compete else where and there you go

Man, if Dak goes down again and this kid shines, the Pats will have failed

I don’t see this as a crack of trust in Dak. I see this as Dallas actually, shockingly, made a good trade that makes sense. Dak is going to be 32 this season, and has been getting injured more often. Milton is 25, and the idea would be to develop him long term to either take over as starter when Dak gets too old, or to hold things together when Dak gets hurt next. Rush left, and he was as old as Dak so he was never going to be the long term developmental guy. They (for some reason) hoped Trey Lance could be that guy, but we all know how that worked. Dallas saw the same things in Lance that SF did, he is not an NFL quarterback.

Dallas gave up a 4th last year for Lance, a 4th this year for Jonathan Mingo. Those two trades are disasterously bad. This trade is their 5th round pick for Joe Milton and they got a 7th as well. Basically, the Pats somehow agreed that a 5th alone for Milton wasn’t enough and tossed in a 7th. I really have no idea why the Pats made this trade. Their fans are pissed, and I don’t blame them. I am scratching my head wondering how Dallas made a competent deal that actually makes sense. I guess Steven must have gotten this done after Jerruh went to bed and before he woke up?

I think we are saying the same thing…

The trust is Dak is waning

Hooker’s valuation tanking even further. If a younger guy with better NFL tape is only worth a 5th or whatever …

Hooker and Milton had very similar college paths. They both played 6 seasons. Neither of them did much of anything until their final seasons in a system designed to bring the best out of them. Personally I think Hooker has more upside, but Milton put together a regular season game that, imo, the Cowboys are overly impressed by. The idea he’s going to push Dak just seems a bit out there for me.

Milton has great physical traits. He has always had a canon of an arm, but given opportunity after opportunity in college he struggled to put that together. You can design a scheme to his traits, but I don’t think that has staying power with him. I’d love to be wrong. I wish everyone success, but I’ve been waiting to see it for years

Exactly… Milton was one of the hottest young QBs that could be available via trade and he brought a 6th rounder basically. The days of Matt Schaub and Jimmy Garoppolo type back ups bringing 2nd or 3rd rounders is gone IMO… Anyone who values Hooker as a mid round pick is suffering from severe homerism

This is a great trade for Dallas. Milton is a freak talent and this is the exact kind of low risk move you roll the dice on. People act like Jerry is some stooge but he is an above average GM.

He’s older than I thought. Must have been an old rookie

Prescott was 23, not that old, he was a 5th year senior. Prescott was part of the 2016 draft class, so he was in the same draft as Goff, Wentz and Paxton Lynch. Wentz is actually older by 7 months.
