Comes with an extension attached in any trade, I’m sure… Not interested in paying him $20+ million/year
$30m per or damn near it.
If they’d take a ‘27 3rd and ‘28 2nd I’d at least think about it. The money probably works out if Kerby is toast.
Is he that good though? I haven’t really watched him play… His run defense grade is atrocious ![]()
Yes. He was one of the top three to five outside CBs in the league the second half of last year IMO. Stylistically it’s probably more Nnamdi lockdown than gamble playmaker type but he is very good.
It’s not the style I typically fall in love with.
Personally I’m way more of a sucker for that Dre Bly/Deion bait the QB and then make a psycopthic burn the boats type break on the ball then I should be ![]()
But I’m not the one that gets fired so there’s that.
Not sure on the run defense element. That could be an issue for us. Personally I think our weighting of CB skill importance is off but in general I’m lock stop with our offensive philosophy far more than the defensive side. And part of that is that I don’t think the approach on defense is cohesive across all levels. It’s always felt disjointed from a risk tolerance standpoint depending on which facet of the D we’re discussing.
That’s true… Though I think we may finally see seething a bit mote cohesive this season. DC always seems to prefer the bigger players, especially in the front seven, at the cost of speed and coverage ability… But then expect the back end to cover forever. It appears as though they’re going a bit smaller and faster now in the front and also (hopefully) getting a little more aggressive with rushing the passer while running more zone
I hope so. And of course the common approach is explosive offense with containment oriented defense. Score a ton and make it so the opposition has to play clean to keep up. Play the percentages.
I have always thought that there is an opportunity to zig where others zag. Dictate with extreme aggression on both sides. That’s why I’ve been pro sexy Rexy. But while we played the backend that way our rush approach was oddly vanilla and we probably weren’t taking enough gap shooting run defense risks to bet into enough 2nd and 14s. So it just always felt disjointed in my novice opinion.
I love him. I loved him pre-draft and I love him now. I have more of an affinity for the long bump-and-run types than @CuriousHusker does admittedly, and he will have issues with little shifty guys. You don’t want him lining up in the slot. But I love him outside.
That said, he won’t be cheap. And I would call him merely average as a tackler. So, will we be into him? For what it would cost, I have my doubts. But yeah I really like him. This is a swing I would highly consider.
I say just pay JP the money we wouldve had to pay Terrion if he became a good CB.
It’s a double whammy though. High draft capital and high salary.
Nowhere to Villain in that equation.
Queue the butt stuff material.

We still have a 3rd? (sarcasm)
I like them too. I like the Blanket and Thomas. I’m just a sucker for game breaking plays on the perimeter in general and probably overvalue them. I’m the same way with the spindly blazers on the outside. And they are generally speaking blind spots. Though the degenerate gambler style of CB is largely a dinosaur with all the RPO and quick game stuff. Better to be in position and be able to tackle. But man they’re fun to watch.
Look, this is the same deal as Scott Harris and the closer position or Trajan and Max Scorer #2.
FIX IT! ITS THE ONE DAMN THING HOLDING YOU BACK FROM A RING. F YOUR WINDOW. F YOUR DYNASTY. F YOUR VILLAINY. F YOUR EVERYTHING.

Make the trade, don’t extend Reed or LaPorta and there’s the money for the re-sign
Someone else said we could use the money we were saving for Terrion as well, and that’s not a bad idea. I don’t think the money is the issue, I think it’s more about fit.
Also, while I love him, I don’t think JPJ is in that tier of highest-paid corners, even if that’s what he ends up getting paid. So we’ll have to make that conscious decision: are we willing to overpay for a guy we didn’t draft to fill that need? I would, but I’m trying to predict what the staff would do.
I also wouldn’t touch a 2027 1st round pick to get him either, but I don’t think it would take that much.
I think the brain trust likes Rock Ya-Sin more than we tend to acknowledge.
