There have been far, far more mitigating factors affecting defensive performance, especially the past two years.

Todd Monken, while not my favorite, would be a good fit for Jared Goff.
He might get a HC opportunity this offseason though.
That doesnāt add up when weād play teams close in the first half and then come out in the 3rd quarter with our team looking like they forgot how to play. No one on the staff could make half time adjustments. Shep is just as much to blame

We will have to disagree.
Sure tons of injuries. But the offensive line was a mess all season and they still performed overall.
I am super tired of the excuses of the defense sucking.
And again if Shep was hired off the street like Morton would everyone be like āhe deserves another chanceā

Look, I wish Shep would have performed better too, but just a look at āgames missed by defensive startersā shows that it DOES in fact add up. At the very least saying it didnāt matter isā¦ well, itās wild to me.

Every defense over the past 15 years whoāve had as many missed games as ours has has sucked. Every single one. Look at Tampa last year, and yet everyone is all over hiring Bowles.

We definitely had more last year and the defense performed better. We had people playing out of position all year. Itās one thing if itās a little sloppy early in the year and improvements start happening as the year progressedā¦but unfortunately it didnāt.

We did have more, and I donāt want to hijack this thread so we can head over to one of the many Shep ones if we want to keep this thing going after this, but they were also to different portions of the defense. There was a discussion in another thread about how uniquely important our safeties are to us with the style we play, so losing two studs might easily be worse for the overall performance of the defense.
And while we held it together last year too, we were still bad for the vast majority of the last half. And exposed in the playoffs.

If he does, and we have another defensive year like this last one and we waste one more year of our prime players then heās going to be on the hot seat. We donāt need another Caldwell holding onto coaches because he ālikedā them. Itās about winning in the end

Hard pass on Monken. His misuse of Henry at critical times in a game are glaring, and itās not just the AFCC against the Chiefs when he has done this.
