John Morton gone

,

Any chance we get the Commies guy?

Hard no to both Commie coaches.

Looks like the Browns are going to interview for their HC spot
LOL…Browns are going to screw this hire up big time

I’m loving how he turned IU around, but its almost too good to be true with him. I’m waiting for something to come out.

The Browns turd in the punchbowl is still around. As long as Berry is there with a voice, they’re ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– .

What could be too good to be true about it? That he pays players? Well that’s legal now.

About the only thing that would make me say ā€œah, so that’s why they’re so good,ā€ is if he’s really Nick Saban and reveals himself Scooby-Doo style after they win it all

Me too, I thought it would be tomorrow.

Yeah I have no idea what could come out. Roids?

There’s simply no way he agrees to coach for the Haslems after being in a division with them for so long. Maybe if he didn’t have any other options.

I want to feel like he’s Dans scapegoat but then considering Dan and he had nearly the same numbers and rankings for each half of the season…Dan did a replacement level job running our O when he hasn’t historically worked exclusively as an OC.

He had to go just like the OC in Dans year 1 here. This means Dan isn’t loyal to a fault in this business and won’t be OC and HC moving forward. He identified that he needs an OC he trusts so he can be a better HC. Self-awareness and transparency goes a long way.

Eh, maybe. I mean I’m pretty sure they’re all on roids, just the more legal-ish kinds.

Morton was still actively involved in the offense and in Dan’s ear from the booth (just like Morton did for Sean Payton). I don’t recall that being the situation with Anthony Lynn. He just disappeared.

The injuries in the back 4 don’t explain the lack of run defense. Big runs yes, but teams were gouging us for 6-10 yards consistently and this is on the DL and LB’s. If you safety is racking up more tackles than your LB’s then you still have a run defense issue.
Other issue is Shep made no adjustments to the fact he lost his best 2 safeties. He just plugged in the 2nd and 3rd stringers and said go do what Branch and Kerby did.

Listen I expected a fall off when losing Branch and Kerby, but we fell of the cliff into the Grand Caynon. It was more than just injuries to a CB and the 2 safeties.

Right and I said many times that was my biggest issue with our D over the last few weeks, run D went to shit with good run defenders, it didn’t add up. BUT it also got sorted against the best run offense we played during that streak, Chicago. What to make of it?

And I guarantee they made plenty of adjustments, just not the ones the fans were clamoring for. And most of them didn’t work. Most of the time they don’t when you’re dealing with backups. Like I’ve said many times, there’s a reason it’s about the Jimmies and Joes and not the X’s and O’s. There’s just not much you can do about rolling out practice squad safeties. Sure, we could have changed the entire face of what we do and run more zone, but why do people think that would have worked any better? I suspect it would have been much worse, guys running open without anyone within 30 yards.

The defense and Shep both have to improve, but for me at least it’s pretty easy to see why he had so many struggles. I mean, early in the year, when we were closer to full strength, everyone thought he was the next great thing. Then we lose stars in the secondary, it turns to shit, but it has nothing to do with it? That doesn’t add up for me logically.

Based on this information I’m predicting Johnny won’t be calling plays for us next year.

Would JT Barrett be an option? I kind of think Dan would like a young guy who knows the system that Dan could mold into the play caller he wants.

Yea we put up the like 3rd or 4th scoring offense, and pair it with the 22nd or something defense, and we fire the OC. Classic. Oh dont worry, I know, injuries. Believe me, I got it. Injuries are the only reason our defense has sucked balls for the past half decade (well, except last year, where we were ironically the most injured)….

So far Dan is batting .333 on offensive coordinator hires. I hope he gets this one right because it’s massively important to this team being good again and not a 8/9 win team hoping to sneak into the wild card.

If we go with an inexperienced guy, is it Randle el?

we were also the most injured team again this year…

Its a trend, think strength and conditioning staff needs to be overhauled, but Dan thinks they are doing a ā€œGood jobā€ so… yeah

it is luck based to a degree, so i hope we get some good luck and are on the other side of the spectrum next year, but we will see i guess.

Like I said, I think losing Branch and Kerby had something to do with it, but there are other issues and they just got magnified once we lost Branch and Kerby IMHO.
Blitz packages are vanilla and easily read by the QB, base DL and LB defense as we discussed, and misuse or not utilizing the strengths of our best players (Hutch should be getting moved around the line way more to stop all the chipping and double teams). What is frustrating is Shep did some of this in a couple games but then just abandoned it for some reason.

I do think with Branch and Kerby back the defense gets better just because of their talent level, but I also think that partially masks other issues
