John Morton gone

,

Daboll then. Kingsbury?

I believe he is the OC for the Colts

Dan has to be honest with what his strength is as a head coach. Overall I thought he was solid as a okay as a play caller. Mostly good, some bad. I don’t think Dan’s super power as a HC is as a play caller. I think he is a motivator, encourager and leader of men. He needs to be involved in the whole game, not too involved in just the offense.

I think he needs a guy who thinks like him to call plays. Experienced. A risk-taker. I’m not sure who that is at this point.

I don’t think either would be great for Goff… Kingsbury runs a lot of gun and Daboll needs a mobile QB

Stefanski would be a dream if he doesn’t get another HC gig

If the Thomas Brown interest is real, then I think that would be a very solid hire for Detroit. Assuming he doesn’t get a HC gig.

with Stephanski being fired in CLE the question is would Jim Schwartz be willing to come back to DET as DEF coordinator because he is a great coordinator

Oh I know. I wasn’t seriously following up on your remark, just a little side track about how good they have been .

Stefanski !!

Some are scared that Ben will grab Johnny. What if the bears just become the team all the guys who were fired by DC go to seek revenge lol

I wonder if Dan would look into hiring Pete Carmichael. He was ā€œOC" for the Saints under Sean Payton when Dan was there. Currently Pete is ā€œSenior Offensive Assistant" in Denver. Maybe Dan gives back Johnny and takes Pete?

I wonder if Scottie Montgomery is going to be the choice. He has OC experience along with time as RB, WR and QB coach.

Spend the money on DC not OC. Shep needs to go. Towel boy for Dan is acceptable.

There is definitely a Saints connection. Payton has always called the plays though I believe.

Kliff has 1 season as a play caller with a top 10 scoring offense…

in 6 NFL seasons… and the 2024 Commandos played 12 bad defenses… the 2nd easiest SOS in the NFL….

and needed an unprecedented (and non sustainable) 4th down conversion rate to do that in 2024.

He isn’t an NFL savant.

Kliff has definitely gotten too much credit for what happened in Washington in 2024, at least from a ā€œgenius offensive guruā€ standpoint. He definitely maximized what he had. His simplified passing concepts worked well for young Jayden, but its also what catches up to his offenses later in the season. Jayden also ran for nearly 1,000 yards…while ā€œonly" having 3,500 yards passing. It was similar to a Kyler Murray season. That doesn’t work for Goff.

Not that i doubt it, but where do those stats come from? I’d love to dig into it.

Pretty sure Morton wasn’t fired because of his ā€œnumbersā€. He was fired because he never accepted responsibility. A typical press conference: Hey John, what do you think went wrong last week? John - execution, it all come down to execution. Hey John - is there anything you would have done differntly? John: Nope. The players need to execute better, that’s what I would have changed.

He never ever took ownership. He wasn’t a fit culturally. He executed himself.

I think he is our top option at the moment.

I’d also be looking at Tashard Choice. Did either running back take a big step up in efficiency this year? Did we use both running backs in the optimal way?

I know that he came to us highly acclaimed because of his former relationship with Gibbs, but can anyone say he did well? He would not be my Choice going forward.

Honestly I heard it on one of our podcasts, so I’d have to go back and listen for the source. And I can’t remember if it was points or yards allowed. I know SF last year was one and maybe the Chargers the year before?

But I don’t think everyone realizes just how bad we had it on defense this year. I mean, just look at it:

The idea that this wouldn’t make it more difficult to coach our defense is simply one I can’t get behind.
