Jonathan Allen on the block?

What could the asking price possibly be?

A 3rd kind of makes me want to do it.

But he would HAVE to be a one year rental for us.

I can’t believe he would want to be traded to a team that isn’t prepared to extend him immediately.

Lions best move in the off season probably comes from a trade.

This is shaping up to be an off-season with options for the Lions. This is great news.

My thinking:

Commies trade allen to get mor Draft Capital for a Myles Garett trade

Commies also have over 80 mill in cap space, so them not Re-Signing points to them either going for a younger DLine or for a big move

I have no belief he will be a one-year rental. I have every belief that he will get a new long-term deal or be a one-year distraction.

I’m surprised he would want to/they would let him walk.
My guess is he stays.

Actually their best move would be to not make a stupid trade.

I’d have some time for Allen but I’m not paying more than a 4th for a 1 year rental and he’d really just be a stopgap until Alim gets back.

I think some are going to, again, be disappointed with the offseason when Holmes doesn’t make a big splash. What we saw last year with the Davis trade is on the high end of what we’ll likely see from him.

Rapoport notes Washington “plans to do right” by Allen, sending him to a palatable spot. If the Commanders can’t find a trade partner, Allen may be released.

Turned 30 in January.

He’s one of their best players.

Did i say stupid trade.

Hasn’t Jonathan Allen been fairly mediocre since he signed that big deal? Still has some juice rushing the passer, but a bit of a liability in run defense? Definitely has not lived up to his contract. I would be surprised if anyone pays 16mil for Jonathan Allen this year, and draft capital, when he is 30 years old coming off an injury he missed half the season.

This is a guy who will likely be released and go sign somewhere for 1 years in an incentive laden deal to rehab his value.

Marty, my friend, I was just speaking in a general sense not saying that you proposed one.

Allen wants a market leading contract at 30 years old and Washington is saying No.
Some team might give Allen a long term contract but if so the trade compensation will be very light.

This is the type of deal that creates cap problems.
A long term deal will extend into the period where Allen is no longer worth the contract.
He will be released and all the Dead Cap from Bonus and Void years will accelerate and create problems.

Thus far Holmes has only given lengthy extensions to young players that are likely to complete the entire contract.

Really? Hard pass then. Young Allen wasn’t worth that.

McNeil is going to miss at least half of the season

Christian Wilkins got a 4 yr/ $110M contract at 29
Chris Jones got a 5 Yr/ $158M contract at 30
Kenny Clark got 3 yr / $64M contract at 29

2 years ago Javon Hargrave got a 4 yr / $84M contract at 30

Agents have players geared up to get one last Big contract around 30.
Most don’t end well.
