I am very curious about watching the ripples of this contract as it impacts other WR signings as well as how much it hamstrings the Seahawk cap. Will have to check where we are at in 18 months if I remember.
Puka is eligible for an extension this season too. Seattle getting this done so early can’t be a coincidence, and it’s highly unlikely they didn’t know they were hurting a division opponent by doing so as well.
And yes I think Puka is really good but I think his production is way less without Stafford targetting him 15 times per game. Is Puka worth 45 million a season? I guess they have no choice but to pay it
I was a big proponent of taking JSN with the Campbell pick. Looking back though, there is no way we could have paid all three of those guys, and Campbell has turned out to be a home run as well.
You and me both. Hell I was a big proponent of taking him at the Gibbs pick. I wanted to take him at 6! But then I had him top 5 that year. But you’re right, it worked out for the best.
In fact I remember that draft when the Campbell pick was announced, it was the biggest tease. I was really excited when I heard the first syllable come out of the commish’s mouth, then instead of “son” I heard “Cam” and deflated. But now I love it lol
Same thing with Kupp too. His production exploded once Stafford got there. Even Megatron to an extent. When Stafford trusts a guy he just mass feeds them targets and they have career years.
I’m not saying Puka isn’t really good, he is. But if Stafford retires soonish, Puka might have a noticeable drop off in production. Can’t throw the ball to yourself. Look at Jefferson last year for example with JJ playing QB.
I think he would have been nitpicked anyway. Tooooo many people thought he was “slot only.” That was the biggest knock, even in here. And of course he was a middling athlete with an average frame. Not the sort of WR who typically goes top 5.
I had him there because I thought he was the best route-runner I’d ever seen, plus it was hard to forget all of his teammates and even Hartline calling him Ohio State’s best receiver, even amongst all those stars.
Well I think Stafford definitely bolsters the numbers of his guys, for sure. He will pepper his guys with targets. But Kupp was still a stud with Goff, he just went from putting up top 10% WR numbers to best overall numbers. But both guys were worth paying a fortune.
And JJ fell off this year, but before this year he put up numbers with Kirk, Mullens, Dobbs, and Darnold. BEFORE this year, him being “QB proof” was part of his appeal, at least in fantasy, especially after he put up numbers with Darnold (everyone was worried about it before that year). Then JJ and Wentz happened to prove otherwise. But having a monster year with Mullens, Dobbs and Jaren Hall playing so many snaps probably means he’s just fine. Honestly I think the bigger concern is him mailing it in.
