See @farmerted, the defense wasn’t trying.
Fields could win 10 MVPs and people on this board would call him a bust because he didn’t win 11.

Based on what? A preseason game? Honestly shocking how good you think Fields is. I’m just saying if this is the biggest mistake the Lions have ever made then I guess you need to put all those other teams on your list as well. Worst thing that happened to Fields was being drafted by the Bears. When’s the last time they developed a QB?
Why does that matter literally at all?
What does matter is that that staff has previously failed to develop a QB. That’s a legit concern, but I think they can and that Tribuisky was just that bad. Pace is the problem there, not Nagy and his staff.
But to say that the franchise is somehow physically incapable of having a good QB? Come on now. That’s just not true.
1st Series
1st pass he rolls out and dumps off for no gain. Not an easy pass for the RB but it counts as a completion.
Now 3rd and 18 (must have been penalty) he scrambles around and find a WR for 10 yards. Good pass but Miami was in soft coverage.
2nd Series.
1st pass he has a ton of time and no pressure. Decides to check down and his pass is batted in the air for a near interception.
2nd pass seam route knocked down by DB. Not terrible but needed to lead his WR more.
3rd pass deep throw that DB knocks away. Not terrible but again needed to lead his WR or it could be picked.
3rd series
bad snap he fumbles but recovered.
2nd pass he has forever and floats one over the LBs and almost picked. Underthrowing just a tad.
3rd play he runs for it and tries to spin move but instead fumbles it and recovers. (this is probably where original author posted that he is playing like azz)
4th series before the half. He has 37 second.s
1st play is a short pass in the middle for 8 yards (terrible decision if this is 2 minute drill).
2nd he scans and does his check down to the RB.
3rd pass he goes deep but overthrows his WR on the left side.
4th pass another check down to RB for another 10 yards
5th pass he rolls out and throws across his body for 10. Good play but inbounds so another timeout used.
6th pass to TE on the sideline. Good pass but end of half.
5th series
1st Pass naked boot. Holds it forever then gets his man for 1st down.
2nd Pass pocket is finally collapsing and he stands tall and throws 20 yard 50/50 ball that his WR highpoints. Defender looked to have a hand on it. Highlight yes, but WR outplayed the DB.
3rd pass another checkdown to RB for no gain.
4th pass, he evades pressure and runs then lobs it over to WRs for 11 yards. Nice play.
5th run he does a naked boot right and runs out of bounds for a few yards.
6th he is almost sacked but gets away and runs around left side for a touchdown. Leans in head first which is worrisome for Chicago.
6th series
1st pass across the middle 6 yards. It’s low but WR is able to adjust and grab it for 1st down.
2nd run keeper to the left. Shows terrific speed down the left for ~18 yards.
3rd pass. Boot right. Blocking TE gets open alone in the far left at the 7 yard line. TD! Major breakdown by Miami defense but give Fields credit for making the play.
Overall what I see is a raw player that has the benefit of mobility to extend plays. His accuracy is just Ok. He doesn’t slide (or at least didn’t this game) which will get him hurt sooner than later. If playing a real defense, I think he struggles way more.
Not saying he can’t be a very good player, but he looks like a rookie to me and couldn’t be counted on to go a full season at this point.
I’m just asking how many years has it been since the Bears drafted and developed a Pro bowl QB? If ever? So I get what your saying but I’m still not seeing how you watched This game and came a way with him being some other worldly QB? Honestly wasn’t impressed with his first half play except for his athleticism. The guys a freakish athlete but it’s hard to stay healthy in the NFL that way. He also doesn’t appear to be a bigger like a Cam Newton. So again, I think he’s talented but you are going way way way over board on a pre season game. Hell we might as well retire Craig Reynolds jersey with that line of thinking. It’s 1 pre season game. Fields may very well be a great QB but let’s wait a few years before we say it’s the biggest mistake the lions ever made in the draft….remember when we passed on Aaron Donaldson for Eric Ebron?
I see what you’re saying. I didn’t. I already thought he was an other worldly QB and I saw another game of his today.
4 years. Mitchell Tribuisky played in the pro bowl. This goes to show how useless the pro bowl is in evaluating players.
Yea except you left something out on that….
Trubisky replaces the Rams’ Jared Goff, who is unable to participate because he will play in the Super Bowl.Jan 21, 2019
We get it dawg. YOU ARE OBSESSED WITH FIELDS (and the Grinch GIF). The rest of us are rooting for him to bust for the Bears. He might be pretty good or not. But I doubt Holmes or Campbell are worried that they’ll be consigned to Lions the Hall of Shame for not selecting him. They did the right thing even if Fields turns out okay for the Bears. Now if Fields leads Chicago to a Championship game, then come back and crow all you want. But not after one preseason game!

Ahhhh…the “Stafford principle.”
if it suits my narrative, I will use the exact evidence that my “opposition” uses to prove he is amazing…to prove he sucks.
I want to see this dude and JR debate between Stafford and Fields as to who is the best QB in the history of our great galaxy.
This would be the battle for middle earth LOL

Fields said after the game that it felt slow to him. If that’s the case, he’s got big things ahead.

Yeah, and Eric Ebron once said he hit the rookie wall in training camp… ![]()
He’s going to bust. Balling out(hitting WIDE open WRs) against second and third stringers doesn’t change that.
I hope HSV doesn’t stumble across any of the other box scores…
The fact that Fields had the SECOND best “stat line” against 2nd-4th team scrubs by a former Buckeye QB hurts the narrative a bit. None other than Dwayne Haskins posted 16-22 for 161 yards and a TD against the Iggles.
Hell neither Haskins nor Fields can hold the jockstrap of Drew Locke after his 5-7 for 150 and 2 TD outing today.
The Phins didn’t even play all the D starters, and the ones that played only played a few series. They didn’t record a team sack or QB hit. The Phins had scored on the Bears 3 times before the Bears managed a FG with seconds left in the half.
Fields went 3 and out his first 3 drives, then scraped together 45 ish yards on 5-7 yard check downs against 2-3rd string D…
Again- he may turn out to be a stud, but his rating was worse than Haskins, Blough, Brisett, Locke, and Flacco amongst others in a game where he played against backups.
Calm down HPV Lion! It’s just one game. They’re building a foundation.
Calm down HPV Lion!

I think Fields is going to be really, really good but so is Penei. I’m fine with Brad’s decision.

Highly likely. Hope Fields needs therapy after every time he faces the Lions. I’d be happy to work with him, if he does. ![]()
