Justin Fields to DET?

I might have been overly-diplomatic. In the past, Ohio State with Urban Meyer tended to run a lot of RPO and high tempo which often limits QBs to a couple of reads per play.

That’s still what they do. It simplifies the read and Fields makes a couple reads if not there he can run. The reads are on the same half of the field to make it quick and easy, obviously longer routes taking more time

That kind of system translates to the NFL by the way. The Steelers offense doesn’t have many reads in it for the QB, and they have 12 wins.

Very few teams cut the field in 1/2 that way. It is usually done in the NFL because the QB struggles reading the D and getting through progressions fast enough.

It doesn’t mean he can’t, but it does put him behind, and in the vast majority of NFL offenses it’s just another thing to develop

Urban’s 2018 team and the Ryan Day offenses are significantly different than Urban’s offenses before then.

In college a majority of teams run an offense that cuts the field in half or simplifies the reads. And when the kids get to the NFL, the coaches typically do the same thing for them while they learn how to go thru their progressions.

Carson Wentz is a wonderful case study in that. Sooner or later the field has to be opened up and then what you’re left with might not look as pretty.

They have a great defense.

Great defense and +9 turnover margin = 12 wins.

Believe it or not, Detroit had more rushing yards AND passing yards than Pittsburgh. Offense was NOT the problem in Detroit.

If you gave Pittsburgh’s defense to Detroit we would be in the playoffs as Pitts defense would have made our offense even better (more possessions = more yards/points).

I’d prefer to grab someone like Ehlinger in the 4th or later

This is what I think too, the offense, personnel wise, is nearly complete. So we need a couple WRs. Maybe a tackle or maybe not even if Big V can shape up or use Crosby/the converted DE guy who is improving. You can find another runner in the late rounds if you’re good. Or a mid level FA.

This whole idea that we have to blow it all up has to end. I don’t care how bad Patricia/Quinn was, or how bad you hated them. We need to stop with the mentality of “we need to blow it all up”. Quite honestly, a lot of that is the national media types who want Stafford to go to Denver or SF or something. Sell him low. F that.

Go add talent to the defense. Get good coaches. Turn it around. It can be done.

3rd.

Add talent to the defense. That requires blowing it up at least on that side of the ball.

There’s a big difference though between rebuilding a defense, or getting some better pieces, and blowing up the team and starting from scratch. 2/3s of our team is ready to go. Lets get the other 1/3 up to par, not blow it up…that last 1/3 is the easiest part. The hard part is finding a QB.

Well said and I agree.

Spot-on.

First of all, the idea of “blowing it up” or “total rebuild” is a fallacy from the start. That just doesn’t happen, save for Madden. All NFL teams turnover roughly 1/3 of their roster every year. I suspect the high end of that tops out at around 40%. There’s just no such thing as completely changing out personnel.

The phrases “blow it up” and “total rebuild” are simply euphemisms for “get rid of Stafford”. And they get used so often by the same people that the code words all of a sudden become justification to them in a maelstrom of circular logic.

(e.g. some posters say the Lions need a “total rebuild” as a way to say they want to dump Stafford, and then use the “total rebuild” as justification for getting rid of Stafford when there’s no other good reason to do so)

There is no need to find a QB. Only an imbecile would entertain that option seriously.

IF Fields fell to the Lions at 7, they felt he is generational, and they took him, so be it.

Gives them options when Stafford’s contract is up. If Stafford wants to stay and is still playing great, keep Stafford, flip Fields. If Stafford wants out, you have your next qb already, with time in the NFL, hopefully ready to step in and play.

Im not sold on Fields, while a lot of your are. But it would be nice to have someone ready to step in once Stafford is done in Detroit.

@JRLIONS this is a public warning. You are headed down a dark road that we are not going to go down again. You need to course correct your posting immediately.
