Kancey wins defensive rookie player of the month

Leads N.F.L. in tfl’s in the month of November. I guess people with arm fetishes were wrong about him.

maybe… he also played Houston, Tennessee, and Indy.

3 games doesn’t make a career … and the concern in college was that his production came against lesser opponents…

Seven TFLs and two sacks is not too shaby for 3 games.

Also in his first real action of the year against the Lions he picked up a sack and was getting nice penetration.

Lots of players this board didn’t like last offseason turning out to be pretty good players

I’m still not picking a 270 pound DT with short arms.

Call me crazy….

A shorter guy can produce–just look at Kerry Hyder in 2016 & 2020:

But, teams don’t typically spend 1st Rd picks on such players. Is Kancey’s production sustainable playing DE in a 3-4 defense? Remains to be seen.

I wanted to draft this kid bad.

I wonder what his run defense grade is

I don’t know but his 7 TFLs in three games is telling me he is tackling them before the line of scrimmage which is usually a good thing.

Henry averaged 2.2ypc, McCaffery averaged 3.7ypc, and Singletary averaged 2.2ypc.

Looks like Taylor ran for over 90 yards with 6 yards a pop but it doesn’t look like the Bucs run defense is hurting too bad.

Ill be honest considering ive talked about Kancey before the draft

he without a doubt filled a need on the Dline 100 percent, he was the perfect pass rushing speciman DT coming out of college, had it in his build being similar to Aaron Donald, and having the film to back it up

similar to others though i did have my doubts about his physical traits, and that a 1st for a rotation piece player didnt feel super good

but then we picked Gibbs (Whos great), but is also, a rotational piece aswell technically

Hindsight is 20/20, i would have been fine with Kancey at 18, but i understand not picking him at the time aswell.

definitely helps playing next to Vita Vea….
and Bowles blitzes every play…

The sack I saw against Minshew and the Colts, Gardner broke the pocket and ran right into him.

But I don’t think anyone doubted that he could be disruptive. The issue is the length and the fact that he probably plays in the 270s and its effect on the run game. Tampa has Vae so they can mitigate that more than most. Good fit for him.

I don’t know enough about Kancey to have a strong enough opinion. But his profile is nearly identical to Aronn Donald. Same height, weight, 40 time, ect. Interesting prospect for sure.

That was certainly the talk pre-draft. I think there was a whole lot of interest in him here before the combine, but then after he weighed in it waned a bit.

That’s just my recollection is all. I could be wrong. One thing for sure, though, is the Donald comps were absolutely talked about around here.

Shorter arms and nowhere near as strong as Donald but given their dimensions and alma mater it was a common comp.

Gotta give Kancey credit.

In 8 games he has 3 sacks. 8 tfls and 8 qb hits.

Double those over 16 games and that’s very good production from the rookie. He has missed a couple games

People pay way too much attention to 40’s, bench press, arm length etc……Instead of just the actual football playing itself!

The film doesn’t lie!

Kancey got a sack against Lions…
because another player flushed Goff right into him on a twist.

Kancey didn’t “win” against a block to get that sack.
