I haven’t seen anyone else mention this, but how ■■■■■■■ hard is this going to be for Matthew Stafford. Don’t give me the BS that he is a pro and its just another game. He gave everything he had for this team. He played with a passion and reckless abandon that is tough not to admire while he was here. He would have done almost anything to make this team a winner. Now that he is gone, we have finally acheived what alluded him all his time here, we have won this division and are hosting a playoff game. We haven’t won a playoff game in over 30 years, Stafford left and won a Superbowl the first year he was gone.
He understands the magnitude of this game for Lions fans. He understand what this means to the guys in that building he used to play with.
I am not saying Stafford will go into this game trying to give it away. I am saying we may not see that killer instinct he had in the 4th quarter. Motivation to kick our ass is going to be tough for Matthew. I think he may play a little worse than expected, as deep down in his subconscious, I don’t think he wants to be the guy who knocks this team out of the playoffs.
I suspect he’s not really happy about it at all, but once the game starts it won’t matter. He’s not the first guy to return to his long-time home. And he IS a pro, no way we won’t get his absolute best.
Yo Nate, I love Stafford and appreciate the Staffords but she did not battle brain cancer. She had a schwannoma, an accoustic neuroma in fact. It was a benign tumor with a less than .5% mortality rate. She is the biggest drama queen ever, don’t perpetuate the BS that she survived some harrowing ordeal.
There are the Norm MacDonalds of the world, who battle cancer for ten years and never tell a soul, and then the Kelly Staffords at the opposite end, who chronicle their “battle” with a benign tumor on instagram and make a big deal out of it. Now it’s brain cancer I guess.
The Staffords are great. Was great to see him hoist a trophy. But he wanted out. Not that I blame him. But he asked.
So I hope he gets sacked 9 times this weekend. I hope he gets hit hard. I hope he has to put on a glove. We all know how that goes. I want to see him throw 4 INTs and have a game so bad that McVay starts questioning whether or not he is throwing the game.
If he stayed we would be a 7 - 9 win team this season and maybe would make the playoffs or maybe not. Dan Campbell would also likely be on the hot seat.
We needed the assets we got in the Stafford trade to rebuild our team.
And my ex from however long ago didn’t leave I don’t have my kids. Sometimes shit works out for the best. Doesn’t mean I don’t want to see the Lions defense hit him hard and him have a terrible game.
Stafford is the 2nd best QB in Detroit history after Layne. But he is a Ram now. Sack him like this. Over and over. I was at the 1991 playoff game at the Silverdome. It was magical. Ford Field will be louder than it has ever been before on Sunday night. The Lions will not lose at home this postseason.
If the Lions score early and make a couple big plays, Ford Field is going to be an absolute madhouse. Will be like nothing we have ever seen as Lions fans.
