My impression of Jack is that he’s absolutely terrible at relaxing.

Yet they have decided to take Barnes out on base, maybe they should sit Campbell while they experiment with Rolder and Nowaske. The good news is they are playing it with a weaker team, that SHOULD get them by.

They don’t bench the guys who have real talent simply because they are in a slump. They only do that to the much less talented.

If Barnes is “much less talented” as you say why hasn’t it showed up on the field. Right now Barnes is tied for first with interceptions, tied for second in sacks, tied for second in number of tackle, he also has several QB pressures and at least TWO deflected passes. YOU’RE RIGHT, IT’S BETTER TO SIT THAT GUY. THE EYE IN THE SKY DOESN’T LIE PEOPLE DO.

Derrick Barnes is a linebacker for the Detroit Lions who earned a 68.5 overall PFF defensive grade in the 2026 season, 26th among 71 qualified linebackers. His PFF coverage grade of 80.4 ranked 9th among 71 qualified linebackers. His run-defense grade of 40.7 ranked 70th at the position. His pass-rush grade of 65.5 ranked 27th among qualified linebackers.

He recorded 15 solo tackles on the season. Barnes generated 5 total pressures including 2 sacks as a blitzer. He allowed a 58.3 passer rating when targeted in coverage. He was charged with 1 missed tackles over the course of the year.

Ranking 70th out of 71 LBs in run-defense would seem to be the issue.

Lol. I don’t really believe any of what I wrote there. I just wanted to see your reaction.

We gotta admit, it’s pretty wild that the Lions have Barnes as a full participant in practice, knowing they are going to bench the guy and all…

Detroit Lions linebacker Jack Campbell has earned a 44.2 overall PFF defensive grade through the first three games of the 2026 NFL season. [1]

2026 PFF Breakdown

  • Overall Grade: 44.2 (64th out of 71 qualifying linebackers)

  • Coverage Grade: 44.9 (57th)

  • Run-Defense Grade: 53.5 (52nd)

  • Pass-Rush Grade: 51.1 (61st) [1, [2](https://www.themorningsun.com/2026/10/02/kelvin-sheppard-has-message-for-struggling-lb-jack-

  • Coverage Struggles: Opposing quarterbacks have targeted him heavily,

  • completing 12 of 14 targets for 145 yards and two touchdowns in coverage

  • From where I sit Barnes is playing according to
*your matrix much better than the 80 million dollar man, and it is not even close

However I am sure you have 80 million excuses as to why he should not be benched..

Campbell’s performance is a reflection of trying to make up for Barnes going off script for his own personal glory. Kind of like the first season of Anzalone, left holding the bag because other guys aren’t doing their jobs. Trying to clean up others’ mistakes.

This exactly. Jack Campbell already lost Anzalone, between the two of them they helped cover up a lot of the issues from Barnes. Now Jack has to do it all by himself, and one man can’t cover 3 jobs at once. Really what’s happening here, Barnes is going offscript to make Campbell look bad, so that Barnes can then take over the MLB spot that he was promised years ago. Barnes was playing the long game, and we’ve only just now realized it.

The Bias: If he gets pushed back off the line by an offensive lineman even a single yard on the next play, he gets a negative grade (e.g., -0.5). Because a standard positive run play often just gets a neutral “0”, a few bad run snaps can drastically tank a cumulative run defense grade, even if a player is solid 90% of the time.

Barnes is often playing on the line in the SAM where the opponent is much bigger most of the time, Campbell does not get this negative impact on his tackle grade because he never plays SAM.

Barnes is second on the team in tackles with 21, and tied for first on the team in TFLs with Hutch and Izien with 3 He also is second behind Hutch in sacks ( 3.5) to 2.

Trevor Nowaske’s PFF run defense grade is 53.1. [1]

Nowaske is also affected by the same problem, he also plays SAM, and is often going against bigger lineman.

YEA RIGHT, PLEASE, sarcasm is your only defense.

Some of you are great at casting lines and waiting for a strike, never had the patience personally. Granted the hits are frequent and i never had thst when fishing green lake or lake Michigan
