I wanted to say something here. Kenny was a pretty decent WR , while here with Tate and Amendola. I’m not about to make excuses for him-elsewhere, but a lot of things could drag your play down.
your not happy with your life,
your personal relationship is falling apart.
some health issue he’s not opening up about.
lack of rest and overall sleep.
He is not happy playing where he is/ not happy with the coach.
He’s battling depression.
something just seems off to me because he’s not just a shitty player, maybe he doesn’t want this lifestyle any more?
KG is a prime example of why the NFL is so leery of huge guarantees on contracts.
It’s a violent, tough, painful, nasty sport with long term consequences. The motivation to kick ass and earn obscene money of course can quickly turn to self preservation.
It’s a tough one. I like seeing players who give it their all get rewarded with big paydays.
However, it’s got to be difficult for owners when a guy gets his money and then feels the need to take a couple of years off due to mental health reasons, or whatever.
I think its the injury angle. Golloday’s game was acrobatics going after the high contact, contested catch.
He’s never been the same since he went on the injury report with a hip injury, and I don’t think he’ll ever be the same again either. Probably the worst free agent signing in recent memory, you take a guy who is no longer able to do what set him apart and throw money at him.
Kenny is extremely lucky that Dave Gettleman had Hellen Keller eyes when it came to him. Otherwise, he doesn’t get much on a second contract
The Giants were one of the worst fits out there for him. Golladay thrived in a vertical offense with a gunslinger QB who trusted him to beat the DB to the ball. Daniel Jones has a noodle of an arm (compared to Stafford at least) and he doesn’t like throwing into coverage. Obviously I don’t blame Golladay for taking the absurd contract the Giants gave him. If Gettleman had gotten drunk and offered me $17,000,000 a year to play defensive tackle I would have signed up too! All 5’9” of me.
