Yep 17 game season plus 2 preseason games (we don’t play our starters in) I don’t understand the super tough practices. it’s almost like playing more games before even playing games.
then we lose a couple games because of the amount of rust to start the season.
Actually, they do and players have talked about thats why they are always so hurt every year. Shanahan has the players in full pads for all 3 days of practice during the season, no matter what. There has been plenty of talk that’s why the 49ers continually lead the NFL in games lost due to injury, year over year.
A lot of their injuries over the last few years have happened in game so I don’t get the “pushed too hard in practice" sentiment.
Did Hutch break his leg in the Dallas game because of practicing too hard, did McNeil tear his ACL in the middle of the game because he practiced too hard, Amon-Ra getting rolled up on because he practiced too hard, LaPorta cracking his vertebrae in the Washington game because he practiced too hard? Etc. it’s football, injuries are bound to happen..
More intensity in their practices compared to other team practices can make them more susceptible to injuries in-game because of the strain and wear it puts on their own muscles, ligaments, joints, and bone structure.
Doesn’t mean they’re going full game speed all the time in practice–juet means they’re doing way more of that in practice than other teams are.
I think it’s bad luck more than anything, see the injuries I mentioned in my above post.
The Lions have been relatively healthy on offense the last few years, it’s the defense that has suffered mainly so I don’t think it’s a team wide thing, it’s just bad luck
The worry is that it’s articular cartilage damage. This is known to end careers because it doesn’t heal and surgical solutions aren’t guaranteed; at minimum, this injury can disrupt and shorten careers. It would also … sadly explain Kerby’s posts and Dan’s statements yesterday.
