The Bears weren’t planning on going for it on 4th and 12th. It was one of those situations where you pretend to go for it in hopes of a minor miracle and then take the 5 yard delay of game penalty and punt. How poorly coached are you to actually fall for it…
Bears TE Cole Kmet on Hutchinson jumping: “ If they do jump, we all know what we’re getting to,” Kmet said. “But yeah, it was 4th and 13 around the 50. That’s kind of like prime take a delay. You know what I mean? I couldn’t believe it, but we took advantage, so good deal for us.”
Yeah, how F’ed up that Hutchinson fell for it. I think we should all pile on Hutch even though he’s been one of the few consistent bright spots all season long. I hope the media and fans call him out so that he knows what a numbskull he is for falling for that. He really needs to learn his lesson and stop being such a liability to this team.
That goes in the SOL hall of fame…not quite in the “SUH stomp” wing, but in the “general predictable dumbassery at the worst moment and where everybody on the other team laughs at you” wing.
I think it really reflects on the D as a unit more than just Hutch solely. He has been and will continue to be a big time player for this franchise. But it’s a reflection of the lack of discipline on that unit, bad penalties, losing contain consistently, miscommunications (or lack of communication), etc.
It’s a reflection of the desperation. It’s the problem with the defense all around, there’s no trust. Too many guys thinking they gotta play hero ball.
To me it was just an over-aggressive play at the absolute worst time that cost the team a chance to get the ball back and get back in the game. In my 35+ years of watching football I have seen many great players commit such a fallacy
