Yep, anything…but it’s prob wayyyyy to complex and expensive for the NFL to wire up some sort of signal lights and/or buzzers to a play clock, poor guys…

The more I think about it, the more I come to the conclusion that this type of thinking (which I have had as well) is a cop out. The refs know what delay of game is. Many of us here have been watching NFL football for 30+ years and we know exactly how its called. How its being called in Lions games is different. We shouldn’t let the refs off the hook. The process is not ideal but it has always worked the same way for decades. Its only an issue now because…■■■■ the Lions.

They certainly can’t afford to pay another part time employee…
who likely would work for minimum wage to get to watch a free game… to operate said game clock light. Nope.

I agree, but a league with a shot clock in the NBA doesnt leave it up to the refs; when that fucking buzzer goes off and that ball isnt out, the play is dead…why cant the NFL just fucking do that?! It’s really not that difficult…

I 100 percent agree with you but at the same time I think our focus should be on the refs. They have gotten it right for the 30+ years that many of us have been watching football. Most of us learned about the “look up” rule when the snap was fractions of a second after 0. What has transpired in Lions games doesn’t follow the policy nor does it follow precedent. Both things should be called out at the same time. The refs were shit on the call and the NFL delay of game system is dumb.

We don’t need buzzers. Just have it a reviewable play with unlimited challenges until you get overruled the 2nd time. These challenges would be separate from traditional challenges.

That almost seems more convoluted…it’s super simple just to tie a buzzer to the snap clock; if buzzer go off and ball no snap, play no go🤷‍♂️

Wow, unlimited until you lose is a brilliant idea. I would like to apply that to regular challenges as well. Right is right. There shouldn’t be a 2 or 3 count limit on being right. Particularly when we are in a league that doesn’t even review “automatically reviewed” plays in Lions games. And the announcers are flabbergasted. “Wait, that’s unusual.” Not to Lions fans. :joy:

I like the buzzer idea. Its the same everytime. If its unlimited reviews then there is a chance for human error which is code for Refs F’n the Lions.

This was an exceptionally bad game though. Typically you may have two or three that you would have to review. Even with the buzzer there’s still going to be human error. It’s still a judgment call by the referee as to whether the ball was being hiked before or after the buzzer. It needs to be reviewable. It’s the only way to get it right (rightish).

I think it would work really well if it was attached to the ref’s testicles… with enough voltage to cause an involuntary whistle response. :smirk::smirk::smirk:

But that’s my point…in the NBA the buzzer goes off and the shot clock turnns red, and the refs will review and easily overturn or uphold the shot release…can 100% be implemented on the NFL snap clock.

Idea of the day. Lol

Either way but I still feel it should be challengeable.

That’s the one that bothered me most. You can’t call times out after the playclock expires. Rodgers is an expert at timing that clock and I don’t have a huge problem with it as long as it is consistent. It doesn’t appear to be though.

100% agree…why not have both?

A friend of mine and I today were talking about this topic during the game after the 3rd or 4th time, because I watch that shit and call it out instantly. There were multiple times of AT LEAST 2 seconds after 00 of the play clock where the play was allowed to go… I feel like we’ve been seeing this all season, noticeably.

So I asked, is the play clock we see on the TV wrong? Did they change something? Is it sped up? It seems like something is off. shrug

I can say they showed a replay of one of the snaps from the end zone. The clock on the wall was at 00 and they had not snapped the ball yet. No penalty.
