I think it is mostly fan talk about resting players and tanking to get an advantage in the playoffs.
The Packers players and coaches seem intent on getting payback for the early season loss and staying on the roll they are currently on.
Alexander & Watson not playing would not be any special resting as they are always on the injury report and subject to be out on any given week.
I don’t see them resting at all. The Packers don’t have a signature win on the season. Beating a hot Vikings team would be a great way to go into the playoffs. And if they have a shot at going to possibly Atlanta instead of LA, I’m 100% positive that’s worth playing for.
Yeah, I think talk of GB folding this early is super premature. While they are probably aware of playoff scenarios, what you don’t want is your team getting complacent or losing momentum—especially right after blasting New Orleans—right before the playoffs.
Momentum matters right now. if you don’t believe me, ask Philadelphia.
Alexander ducks Jefferson ever since he mocked the griddy in front of him 2 years ago. No chance he plays. Week 4 Jefferson was asked about Alexander playing “if he plays he plays, either way I’ll be doing the griddy in his end zone”.
BTW, did Jaden and Cade just get Mike Brown fired?
That’s a totally different argument. If you are suggesting that they will be cautious with those that are banged up, no argument there but they aren’t resting starters simply to rest starters. Not in week 17 against the Vikes.
My point was teams that have clinched often rest players who are injured and would play if they hadn’t clinched. This is very common. We see it every year.
We’re not talking about healthy players. We’re talking about players who have been banged up and not 100%. Players who could use the rest or will be on a limited snap count come game day.
In this case they had 4 players who were on their injury report practice this week. It appears they’re choosing to sit some out on game day. This is exactly what I’m talking about. Healthy enough to practice but not play = resting.
That was in your initial post and what I was reacting to. That sure sounds like you were arguing for more than just caution with Jaire and perhaps Watson.
Ehh, whatever. You’re the only one that really knows what you meant. I just felt like your prose in early parts of the thread indicated something else altogether.
But my point remains, LaFleur is playing everyone that is healthy enough to play and this game means a ton to the Packers. You’ll see a highly engaged and motivated squad. I’m certain of it.
“Resting starters” means something, Air. It’s a term of art in football. I’ve been watching the sport long enough to know that and so have you. It doesn’t mean just letting the two guys listed as questionable sit another week… I think you moved the goalposts from your initial post. You can disagree with me about that but I have the right to believe what I believe as do you. And that’s what I believe, Air. So agree to disagree and move on
Brother you already know. The money on the line, the drama, tension. The NFL lives for this shit. The most anticlimatic thing ever would be for the packers and lions to handle their business this week and the 1 seed be locked up.
Like I said, IMO the implication of your initial post was quite clear and then from there it was walked back later in the thread.
That’s my belief. If my belief is faulty then so be it.
I stand by my initial post. iMO the Pack will play everyone they deem as healthy enough to play tomorrow and they will play their hearts out. IMO the game means far more to them than you initially implied.
