Let’s talk Lions Offensive Line

:+1:

I think this dovetails perfectly into Dan’s recent comments saying he wants to win in different ways so the team is comfortable being flexible. I like that we can be equally fantastic running the ball or throwing it. We can hit you with 2 distinct running styles. We can hit you underneath with ARSB, Laporta, or the backs, or we can go over the top with Jamo. Soon we will have Teslaa up to speed to out physical you. We are a tough team to stop.

I think that has always been the Dan ideal. For as much as everyone thinks he just wants to run it down your throat… well, that’s not wrong, but he also wants to be able to pass it all over the field. He wants balance, it’s the best way to make an offense difficult to stop. He’s not one of those old school, run it, play defense, win games 17-13 coaches. Nah, that stuff doesn’t work in today’s league. He wants to win every game 40-10.

I think we got a steal in Ratledge. He did not have a good senior year at Georgia because of an ongoing high ankle sprain that he was trying to play through and did miss some games. I wonder if he is not a guy our scouts had an eye on for quite some time. He never played Center during a game but he did play there in spring practices. We must have been watching him closely even back then to feel confident he could play center.

He certainly looks a lot better than he did his last season. His leverage issues aren’t cropping up nearly as much, which makes me a lot more confident about his switch to center.

I also think playing next to Sewell makes his life a lot easier, as it would any RG. For a talented guy like Ratledge, that could be the difference between good play and great play.

Seems like every year we have a new Right Guard and every year that right guard has a career year. The Sewell factor is enormous! and yes that’s what she said

From what I’m seeing in his play….. I kinda hope we keep him at OG. That man is powerful and nasty. He’s exactly what you want in an OG.

I’d much rather leave him next to Sewell and draft the best center we can.

It would be nice to have the right side solved for the next 5 to 7 years.

Is this a good draft for Centers though? That could be a big factor in the decision.

If Tate does move to Center…. Mahogs might move to RG. They got some options long term

Maybe Frazier becomes another beast on the OL, what a Frikken draft ‘25 may become!

I think it’s a better draft for centers than it is for guards. I’d say it’s average at center to below average at guard. That outlook may change as the year progresses and we see how players change.

I think that’s why we drafted two IOL last year. We knew this was going to be a below average OG class.

That’s the thing I don’t think people realize about our offense… We literally put things on film for people to study, so they prepare for the wrong shit

We are setting people up for misdirection late season

People are gonna forget that Fox is a fake punt expert, with the arm of a quarterback, and the wheels of a running back

We definitely don’t put certain things on tape… We definitely do put certain things on tape

Next level shit

This offensive line improves a little as the season goes on… We’re gonna be lethal

I really appreciate this kind of thinking… Very forward, thinking, and very insightful

It’s the sorts of statements that remind me I should be doing twice as much listening as talking. Lol.

What’s life without a good Simpson quote?

“Went by the name of Homer. Seven feet tall, he was, with arms like tree trunks and his eyes were like steel: cold and hard.

Had a shock of hair-- red, like the fires of hell”

Montgomery seems to be doing better behind the line than Gibbs. Do you think there is something to that? Or is it just a small sample size nothing burger?

That we lump the entire OL together, rightfully so in many respects, but Sewell is super human. Seriously he single handedly was collapsing the entire D on the offenses right side. You just rarely see that at this level. Period. Against anyone better yet against the Ravens on MNF. His greatness is really, really impressive to watch. Total franchise changer.

I think Gibbs had 1900 yards and 20 td’s last year and they are hyper focused on trying to slow him down. Which they should be. Then Monty comes in fresh and makes the tired defense his bitch!

It was the opposite under Ben Johnson. Still worked great. But both can work well. I still wanna see more of them on the field together. We did it a few times last week

Gibbs is best on outside zone runs, but Baltimore is better equipped to stop outside zone. So we hammered them with Monty and duo.
