Let’s talk Lions Offensive Line

Seems like they were really keyed in on Gibbs.

These 4 centers are guys I think the Lions could target in the draft..

I think all have characteristic’s the Lions seem to covet.

Problem is if we want one of these guys we’re going to have to take them early.

Logan Jones
Jake Slaughter
Connor Lew
Parker Brailsford

I think Jones and Brailsford are too small. Lew to me is the gem of the class, but yes, will be pricey. Slaughter could be had in the 2nd imo. We’ve been running through lots of centers over in the 2026 draft thread, from these guys to the Oregon kid, Foster, Tolliver, Petitbon, etc… There are a lot of intriguing centers this year.

One play said it all to me , opening the 4th qtr down by 11 with the ball . I say to my bud ok so after this td drive do we go for 2? Just as I said it Rashaun Gary bull rushed Decker . Pushed back into Goff like a wet whore on welfare Wednesday, gets pushed on her back.. Cleveland has a pretty stout DL will be another test , won’t take much from the raven game when their not one but two best pass rushers sat out.

I think the OG class always looks thin at the beginning of the year. As the season plays on some guys will rise and eventually you get all the short armed OTs who convert. What we see now will look completely different after the combine.

Jones has that Nastiness and physicality that the Lions like in a linemen. He’s also a team leader which we all know is big on their checklist. I think being from Iowa also is a plus too. We seem to like players from Iowa. A converted DL seems to be a plus for me. The kid gets to the second level well and shows an athleticism that’s rare among centers.

The only knock on him is his size but he may bulk up more this season and help his draft stock.

Right now I feel Slaughter is a real possible target for us. He’s a quality pass blocker and any player who helps Goff’s pocket is a plus. He’s also a team leader. He stayed in school to improve his draft stock. Very few centers go round one and I agree he will likely go round two. Which I think improves his chances of landing with us.

I’d be surprised if we do not take a Center or Guard in the first 3 rounds. My money is on center.

The real question for me is how we handle GG.

For a minute I was disappointed with Glasgow because I expected him to be the rock that brought the young guys up to speed, and everything seemed ■■■■■■

Now I believe in my boy again

Glasgow will either be gone or a backup next year, I don’t think there’s any way around that.

I think Jones’s biggest plus is his juice. Definitely the most athletic center in the class and awesome at reaching the second level. Great motor, really nasty, and he pancakes a lot of guys for being so small. Really good in the run game.

But as a pass protector his just lacks the girth to hold up imo, he has one of the poorer anchors of all the guys listed. I also think some of the other guys are much better from a mental perspective, whereas the mental side of the game can be more of a struggle for Jones. He’s not bad at it necessarily, it just doesn’t come to him naturally. Finally he really has to shore up his shotgun snapping. Maybe he has, but that stood out in his pre-2025 tape.

He’s not a bad option, there are just other guys I prefer for their pass blocking. That said I think Jones’s questionable anchor might push him into the 3-5th range, and at some point he’d be a bargain.

I’m a much bigger fan of Slaughter, but he’ll be more expensive too. But you can tell he’s been a center for a long time, you never fool him with twists or stunts. He’s got that natural center awareness. He’s a very good athlete for the position too - not at Jones’s level, but very good. He’s awesome at the second level and has a hot motor as well. He’s more of a positional blocker in the run game than a slobberknocker like Jones, but Frank was like that too. He can get loose with his hand placement but otherwise there are very few weaknesses to his game.

But Lew is like Slaughter but even better. He moves even better, he’s more powerful, the instincts are Frank-esque and his technique almost never lets him down. And he just turned 20 a month ago. Of course he’s likely to be the most expensive guy, but I think we’re talking future pro bowler.

Montgomery seems more patient and may have slightly better vision, but not the juice that Gibbs brings. Seems Monty is more suited to zone blocking, while Gibbs probably is better at picking a gap and getting to it quickly. All of our lineman grade better as gap blockers. So its puzzling that Monty seems to be the more efficient runner so far this year (though I expect it to even out).

Spot on brother. You said it better than I could. But then why not have them both on the field together more! Defenses can suck our balls

I’m trying to picture that. Wait I’ve paid for that.

I did get a chance to watch Lew and he was impressive. He totally dominated in the game I watched but it was against lesser competition. I look forward to watching a lot more of Auburn as they play through the SEC schedule. They have some prospects that are worth watching.

He’s playing through an injury right now so keep that in mind. Might be more useful projection-wise to get a good look at last year’s tape. It’s a sprained MCL from I believe a game-and-a-half ago. He’s trying to play through it, and I thought he was pretty good against Oklahoma if not his usual dominant self. He’s listed as questionable this week, and it’s possible it’s just something he has to play with all season.

I did not watch the Oklahoma game yet but I have it on tape to watch later. You guys are way ahead of me. I usually tape most games and start watching when the weather gets cold and baseball is over. I try to keep track of all the names you guys throw out there and make sure I watch them.

Ah see I don’t watch baseball, so that helps me to get a head start.

It’s not just baseball but we have a local girl Kayla McBride who plays for Minnesota in the WNBA, I try to watch her games in the playoffs. We have been walleye fishing on Lake Erie and that is turning to steelhead fishing in the streams. Gardening harvest and I have apple and pear trees all stuff that has to be done. I swim laps and also ride my bike as long as weather permits. My draft season will be in full focus through the winter and by March I will be knocking heads with you until draft day. LOL

Small wonder that Glasgow wanted to play there (and not next to his buddy Decker).

Our RBs BOTH completely take over games.

Hank Fraley and the OL are a huge part of that.
One thing that has been missing so far this year… That we used to do last year, is the offensive line, pushing the running back forward, after contact
There was a play on Monday night, where Gibby slammed it up into the 1 yard line, and I just knew the offensive line was going to shove him into the end zone… They did not

I hope that gets addressed, because they are going to be times, when that is a difference maker

It didn’t hurt us in that game, clearly

I feel like with some fans, Monty is underrated… Though not as much after the last game

I also feel like Gibby is underrated by some fans

Go back and watch the highlights of the Washington game from the playoffs last year

Gibby would’ve won that game for us if they would’ve allowed it

I agree - Gibby was unstoppable and for some reason Ben wanted to get into a shootout. Had we played ball control offense I think the outcome would be different.
