Commish is quite dependable but he he is not an exceptional talent.
Commish is the Josh Reynolds of the D-Line.
He will do his job at an average or slightly above average level. Holmes has increased the talent level and that may push Commish out.
It will be fun to watch play out in camp.
Commish has been Hutch’s primary backup and is just not a very good pass rusher. Hutch began playing 90% of reps. Is it because he didn’t have a competent backup? He can’t keep playing that many snaps and stay healthy and productive at end of games and season.
Betts and possibly Agude can play the Rush end as well and are much better pass rushers.
Holmes has a couple of players that are roster locks that can play that role in Paschal and Wingo, along with competition from Levi for the same position.
That is an assumption with regards to Betts and or Agude we have no idea how well Betts will perform if at all. Agude maybe more hope for but at this point we need to see them in pads against the OL and other teams.
Of course I am projecting with Betts and Agude.
They have zero NFL games so we are going by Agude’s superior athleticism and Buzz from his time on the Practice Squad, OTA’s and Minicamp, and Betts’ 18 sacks in the CFL.
We have seen Commish and know that he will only get you a couple of clean up sacks at best.
He has a 1.5 sack average over his 5 NFL seasons.
It will be interesting watching Commish try to hold of Levi, Betts, and Agude this summer.
Yo do realize Vildor played EVERY SNAP of the NFC Championship Game.
What’s Your Point?
Just because a coach is forced to play a player doesn’t mean he doesn’t want better.
It just highlights the deficiency.
Watching Vildor play 100% of the defensive snaps in the NFCCG made Holmes intent on improving the quality and depth of his CB room.
Watching the lack of pass rush from the Rush End anytime Hutch went out may make him lean towards someone that can bring pressure when hutch is out.
Holmes went out and traded a 3rd rounder for a $14 million CB.
He signed another CB in free agency for another $4.5 mill guaranteed.
He then traded another 3rd rounder to move up for Arnold.
Still not done… he drafted a 2nd CB in Rakestraw.
And he added 1 DE on a 1 year deal….
and a CFL guy with ZERO guaranteed money.
He obviously didn’t feel the need to overhaul the DL group like the CB room.
There are only so many resources to go around.
You forgot about Wingo.
Also, Holmes is very loyal to HIS guys.
Every player he has vetted and drafted has gotten at least 3 years in the organization.
He is going to give Levi, Paschal, Houston and Wingo a chance to go along with Hutch and McNeill.
Holmes didn’t have CB’s he drafted except Branch, Iffy, so he found his guys.

Injuries with Manu, Reader and Davenport could allow the Lions to play with the roster a little at the cut to 53. Maybe Yode makes it, or possibly Agude if there’s an extra roster spot due to PUP.
