Speaking of Peart, I’ve been formulating a bit of an “underrated” drummer list in my mind. (Those moments where you’re jamming to good tune, and realize how instrumental (pun intended) the drum is to the vibe. Not just pounding out a beat, but really adding a musical element to the tune.)

Byan Hitt - REO Speedwagon
Bill Ward - Sabbath
Lee Kerslake - (Ozzie’s 1st drummer post-Sabbath)
Bun E Carlos - Cheap Trick

Ringo Starr at the top of the list. Every song has a distinct beat and rhythm to it, so much so that one can tell what song it is just by his drumwork.

I don’t think you can put Ringo on an underrated list. He’s the most recognizable name in the entire history of drumming.

I’d put him at the top of the list for best all time drummers though. Right there with John Bonham of Zepplin, and Neil Peart from Rush.

In fact… they even signed Bruce Irvin away from Lions PS instead.
