Lions and Browns have discussed a Za'Darius Smith trade

What’s the hold up?

They want a 4th and we are offering a 5th??

They want more than we’re willing to pay.

And I think they want more than the fans would be willing to pay too.

If I had to guess, I bet these teams are trying to take advantage of Detroit needing a DE badly by raising their prices. That’s the only way it makes sense to not have had a deal done before this game today.

Waiting on Mark Davis to change his mind.

HSVLion, spot on my man. I think that is exactly it. Plus I think there is competition for his services.

If we acquire him, he will basically just be a more productive and durable version of Davenport.

This is exactly it, there’s a market for him and realistically our draft capital is about 15 spots lower per round than some of the teams involved.

Where some may offer a 5th, we need to pony up a 4th for example.

At this point he is worth it, and locked up for next season too.

This was an example used in one of my classes the other day. (Can’t remember if it was economics or one other class).

If you’re a hotel owner (DE seller), and you’re on a hurricane evacuation route (NFL trade market), and a hurricane comes (Hutchinson gets hurt)…that hotel owner (Cleveland/New York) can raise their prices far beyond normal, because they “know” (quotes in this case) that people (Detroit) have to pay that new price, and “would be a lot more willing” to pay, if they want somewhere to stay that night (a DE to replace our injured guys).

When supply doesn’t change, and demand increases, the price goes up.

If all it cost us was a 4th, we would have made this deal a while ago.

Agreed, however I was using those values as an example not actual compensation.

Great analogy!

Except, Brad and Dan are like, “F*ck you… we’ll sleep in a tent (stay with what we have), so keep your hotel room (DE), and it can stay empty (you aren’t getting anything from us).”

Other teams suck!!!

I think we need to add something to the analogy.

We want the room because we’re planning to elope and get hitched to the Lombardi trophy. There’s pressure on us to pay a premium and we probably will by Tuesday.

I think we are more likely to go combine ‘next man up’ with we’re gonna score 60 on your ass.

Greatest show on turf will look like hot garbage compared to what our offense will do to ya!

I know. I just posted that because I get the idea that our consensus is that we have to pay a 4th for him.

And we’ll be about $2,000 short of what we would otherwise be. (In this analogy…because that’s what hotel owners charge sometimes…)

Be nice to have ZSmith opposite hutch next year as well. Go get him and Ojurari!

Melvin Ingram was 32 years old when he got traded at the deadline a couple years ago and he cost a late 6th rounder.

I can’t see giving up a 4th for Z’Darius and the Brown saying NO

The Villain is on the job. He will use a jedi mind trick to bring the price down.

My guess is that he’s somehow trying to get the vikings involved in the trade to squeeze more juice out of it.

I’m not so sure about this…

I think this is a CROSSROADS moments for Brad

Stick to the script…or adjust on the fly. If you gotta overpay a bit you gotta overpay to get it done.

The time is NOW. And Tomrorow (next years), but we can’t forget about TODAY because we are worried about tomorrow.
