Us to every team we play and will play:
Much of the national media still talks about our defense as though it’s not all that good.
T5th in scoring D
3rd in Defensive DVOA
4th in red zone D
1st in 3rd down D
we’re not good in yardage. and as soon as that’s how the final score is tallied I’ll worry about it.
All of which is incredible considering our pass rush has fallen off a cliff without Hutch.
The DL is holding its own nonetheless, considering the injuries.
The LB play has been excellent.
The secondary is light years ahead of last year. It’s become the strongest unit on the D.
I have their defense on my fantasy team. They’ve scored pretty well. Hopefully it only gets better once Dr Smith arrives. The doctor has arrived and he recommends amputation.
I feel like the pass rush was fine in Minny albeit blitz dependent. It forced some mistakes against Tennessee and I think game script keeps me from drawing too many conclusions. Green Bay it was an issue but tough conditions.
I’m not denying it’s a concern nor that it will remain one even with Smith. But I’m not quite there with everyone else on the degree of concern. Conversely I’m probably more concerned with the run defense trend than most are.
So i get bored at work and do some analytics on stuff
Drives against our defense that ended in points
On the season: 7.97 plays per average on scoring drives 8.14 if we take out the fake punt that gave Minny the ball on our side of the field
When we win the average plays is: 8.29 per scoring drive 8.48 without the fake punt
We also have given up 16 TDs
By quarter
3 in the 1st
3 in the 2nd
5 in the 3rd
5 in the 4th
I definitely agree on game script, Glenn has done a good job covering it up based on the other teams offensive skill ability and weaknesses.
All the Campbell years…
Here’s an even better metric:
Lions DVOA rankings:
Defense Offense Overall
2020: 32…19…29 (Patricia shitshow)
2021: 29…29… 29 (revamping)
2022: 27… 7… 9 (emerging)
2023: 13…5… 7 (we’re here)
2024: 3…3… 1 (best in class)
Sounds like someone is ready to give Glenn his flowers?
Leave Trey Flowers out of this AG isn’t that desperate for ends.
Just yanking Socko’s chain a bit. He hasn’t exactly been AG’s biggest fan.
Knock on wood, but it looks like it was more a personnel issue than scheme or coaching.
He will like that… Sinner
Definitely not personal. I have nothing against AG the person.

They kind of remind me of the 2017 and 2018 Patriots defenses… that were ranked in the 20’s in yards allowed… but in the top 7 in scoring defense.
They didn’t have dominant edge rushers…
played a lot of man coverage…
and made a lot of red zone stops.
They also won a Super Bowl…
