Lions beat reporter confirms fans' worst fears after Micah Parsons trade

And this depends… The Lions misused Swilling… I don’t think GB will make the mistake of trying to turn Micah into a coverage LBer… He needs to rush the passer

The Rams had a much better roster than the Packers do now, and comparing a QB to a pass rusher does not compute, no matter how good he is.

The Packers basically traded 4 players for 1 in Parsons.

Two picks where starters are the expectation, plus Clark, plus the extra high-end player (or two even) that could have been signed with that kinda money.

The Lions get Hutch on an extension at a much lower cost: only the extra talent that could be had if that money was used in free agency.

So long as he is healthy he will be a huge help for the Packers, I’m sure. But thinking this move is a surefire winner is getting way ahead of the game. For me, this is a Lombardi or bust move.

The Packers need to sign both their OTs, add WRs and CBs etc. and that won’t be easy for them now.

This is another big question mark. Will Green Bay allow Parsons to just rush the passer like they did in Dallas? I mean, there’s a lot of guys in the league that get 10 sacks per year (Ziggy Ansah averaged almost 14 sacks over a three year period for us – was he a difference maker?) and are paid a fraction of what GB is paying Micah. Are those extra 3 to 4 sacks worth paying $47 million for? For a one dimensional player who isn’t known for defending the run? Yes, we will pay Hutch a lot of money, but he can defend the run, he can play inside or outside, and he can rush the passer just as effectively, if not more so.

This is 100% accurate… Much like the Stafford trade, SB or bust. There’s no doubt they partially mortgaged the future for a Lombardi in the next 2-3 years… But I don’t fault them for taking the swing many of us wished the Lions would take.

I don’t disagree with any of this… Is it worth it? I guess we’ll see. A player like Micah can be a game wrecker, he’s going to make everyone better on defense. And sure, he’s not a world beater as a run defender, but he’s not a liability either… Completely average according to pff. Again, it’s a big swing, but you’re adding an elite player at an elite position to a playoff team… Hard to argue it’s a bad idea currently IMO

He might not play game one. He has a back sprain. He may take an epidural and play but this team does punish people. I wouldn’t be surprised if he sat out week one

Yeah seems like his back injury is legit

It might be something that could plague him all year if it doesn’t get better

Like I said when the trade happened, decent shot he’s on a snap count when they play against us, which is significant

Looking at how the Packers played against good teams last year I just don’t see how they are all of a sudden front runners for the SB? They beat Huston and a Rams team that didn’t have Puka or Kupp I believe. Lost to every other playoff team they played. Struggled against Jacksonville, blocked FG at the end of the game away by being swept by the Bears. Micah is a stud but SB? Best thing they got going is that 3rd place schedule they earned.

So just a couple of numbers here after three games in GB; Micah Parsons has 1.5 sacks, which ties him for 38th in the league, he has 1 TFL, and five (yes 5) total tackles.

For reference, AQM has 3.5 sacks, which puts him fifth in the league, and Hutch has 2 sacks, tying him for 14th.

Yeah, I’m sure Micah is making an impact beyond stats, but for $47 million, he better be filling up the ■■■■■■■ stat sheet too. We plucked AQM from between the couch cushions and are paying him about $1.5 million this year (3% of the MP contract). Now I don’t expect AQM to be better than MP by the end of the year, but I do expect a lot of buyers remorse up in GB. I am struggling to recall a game where Micah Parsons took it over. In his last 25 games, he has 20 sacks. Remember, he was playing on the carpet at home for half of his games in Dallas. Let’s see how he does when it’s 15° in GB on that frozen turf. I personally think the guy is good but way overrated. Add in way overpaid too. He will be Green Bay’s Trey Flowers, who surprisingly is still only 32 years old.

Micah donated 5 yards by jumping offside on the Browns final “drive” that yielded the winning FG, so there’s that. Would a try from 60 yards been good?

Curious on how many snaps he is playing in the first few games as I believe he didn’t practice at all this off season…

Game one he had less snaps but weeks 2 and 3 I saw that he played more snaps than Gary
