I hope the penalties thing doesn’t snowball, where getting flags gets him a reputation that just draws more flags.
I remember that happening with Westbrook back in the day. After his injury, he got a bunch of questionable penalties called against him. After that, he was branded as the grabby guy, and it just led to even weaker flags being thrown. Dude never recovered.
I LOVED his answer…. Keep it up, they’re not going to flag you 60 times per game.
That’s the attitude the best defenses I’ve watched have. They basically force the refs to comply with our style of play.
“I always joke around and tell them they can’t call 60 PI’s, so keep being close. And that’s what we want,” Townsend explained further.
I just don’t want Arnold to keep getting penalties-period.
That’s playoff football. Arnold will be so much better by then, so they just have to get there.
Are you sure?
Has anyone watched a lot of his games at Bama? Was he grabby sometimes during college?
Yes, a lot of college corners are grabby. They let you hand fight a hell of a lot more than in the NFL. Jeff Okudak was another one who was excessively grabby in college.
I think Arnold is getting better, but he has to learn to get his damn head around and keep the hands off downfield. I feel like the call in the Arizona game only happened because Arnold basically put his hands over the WR’s facemask so he couldn’t see. It’s a bold strategy Cotton, and it didn’t work.
Arnold’s positioning, which is far more important, has been top notch. He has already had plays where the QB had to sail the ball because he was in perfect position with the WR. That’s way more than we saw with any DB’s last year, and more than Okudah ever showed us. Arnold is still very much a pup, and his injury in camp cost him even more time. I still feel like in some ways Rakestraw is more refined, but has a lower upside. I do think Arnold is going to be more of a boom bust where if he can figure out how to start locating the ball, he is going to be a real problem for offenses soon enough.
He didn’t look good tonight in prime time.
Every team from now on will go after him until he shows he can cover, the announcer is right - they need to put mitten on him during practice.
Kid is making progress…in a positive manner.
He’ll be fine with more reps and confidence. His position is good, he isn’t holding from being beat he’s holding from being used to getting away with it at Bama. Worked in college, just needs to adjust but no worries.
Or try rakestraw. He looked good when he’s played.
On a side note; we really missed branch tonight.
Agree on Branch, made the win all the more impressive.
It has officially snowballed.
Arnold even looks sideways
After 4 games, this years draft (Arnold/Rakestraw) is a far cry from last year’s (Gibbs/Laporta/Branch/Campbell)
They tried tonight!!!
I feel like Arnold is getting a bit go a rough ride by officials
I only care when we lose
Without a doubt.
