If we go back far enough in the Lions pressers, we’ll see the LB coach talking about them losing their ST guys (Nowaske and Cabinda) and needing some help. The conversations (as I remember it) was him reassuring his players that there would be help coming. This was pre-draft.

It’s a little late, but help has arrived.

There was a report that Rodrego MAY go on IR or miss some time.

So nowaske fills in until hes back.
Lions typically carry 6 LBs on the active roster for special teams usage.

So Niemann is safe. For now.

He was back at practice limited but back. So less likely IR. More likely he will be inactive first game or 2

For his role (SAM), we haven’t really been counting the players that previously filled it as “Linebacker”. Like Julian Okwara, Houston, Bryant, etc.

So if you look at it that way, we’re still at 6, which is pretty normal. 5 has been a number before and so has 6.

We’ll they were at a 3 2 5 as a base. 3 on the DL wouldn’t be an adjustment. Maybe that why they were trying Houston and Betts at WIL

Several of our moves seemed to be geared towards improving the ST unit. Which is why I’m not putting too much stock in the heavy LBer group on the roster.

I think the new rules have us wanting to put together a strong unit for a competitive advantage.

In a league where WR is a premium and getting big bucks too.

Other NFL teams are stocking up at WR and we carry just 4?

You’d think we would be developing some mid level talent.

I wish I understood his plan here but it’s a head scratcher.
