Lions Depth Chart going into FA (Massive Holes)

Is GG The Center?

Paschal at DE2?

Rakestraw at NB?

Need a Will.

Harper & Jackson are your starting Safeties

Whiteside/Dorsey is currently your CB2 with Arnold very likely missing time

Restructuring: Goff, St Brown, McNiel, Sewell, $80m in cap space. GG retires $87m in space.

After draft picks and saving some for in season.

Call it $65m in total space.

And 2 high end draft picks

I’ve never cared enough to do this for other teams, but I’m betting the majority of teams heading into FA have massive holes and maybe even more questions.

Biggest thing for me, question-wise, right now is secondary - BB, Kerby, Rake injuries. TA suspension? Woof. I can’t believe all the assets and money the Lions have thrown at the secondary to have it sitting like this right now.

This is true, but S and FS are now holes, just like a Detroit road too many spots to fix all at once

Im not worried about filling safety with high cap free agents or the draft. Not with all the other issues. Mid round draft pick or slightly above vet minimum will take care of that for now

1 - Center1

2 - Edge2

3 - Will1

4 - CB2

5 - OT3

6 - DT2

7 - NB1

8 - WR3

9 - S

10 - QB2

Thats my list to fill out.

That 2024 Daft looks like poooooop. 1 below average stater and 1 special teamer

And the 2025 draft has 1 average starter and 2 depth players.

Cap question. @DeadStroke wisdom needed. If Kirby’s career is over, can we recoup the cap room for this season? Thanks!!

No. Kerbys locked up for 2026 and 2027. Nothing the lions can do.

2026 - $5.5m cap hit. $19m hit if cut

2027 - $9m cap hit. $11m hit if cut (because guarantees kick in)

2028 cut for $4m thats realistically when they could release him

no OG?

They have 3 OGs. Rateledge, Mahogany, Fraizer. It would be nice to upgrade. But too many other needs. And a good center will help the guards.

Maybe . . .

His $11.5M 2026 salary is fully guaranteed and his $18.5M 2027 salary is guaranteed against injury. Plus he has $8M in unamortized signing bonus from 2025. So one way or another we have to pay him an additional $29M in cash (cash due less per game bonuses) and recognize $37M against the salary cap in 2026/2027/2028. The Lions will likely recognize cap hits of $5.3M in 2026, $8.7M in 2027 and $23M in 2028.

There is a possibility that the Lions insured Kerby Joseph against injury. We have done it before with Trey Flowers and recouped Millions of dollars in insurance proceed. If there is an insurance policy, and we receive proceeds, it will show up as a year-end adjustment and we will likely receive it after he is released.

No clue what we have in Hassanein. Seems like he’ll be a longer shot than last year.

If WR3 is anywhere close to a Top 10 need then Holmes should be fired after trading 2 3rds for Teslaa.

Thanks and ouch.

It isn’t.
I would have safety much higher

The reason I said wide receiver, three is also for a punt and kick returner

No Raymond, no Alexander no Kennedy. Who is replacing that?

I doubt we are big players in FA, mostly because of the “We’re Good” thing.

Raymond was always WR4/WR5, so seems like that would be the listed “need” here.

Teslaa is WR3 without question.

Dominic Lovett may have a shot to stick as WR5 with return ability and possible special teams gunner.

Plus… Kennedy is still destined to be on the Lions PS. Death, Taxes, and Tom Kennedy.

I think Holmes makes some moves this year. Right now this team isn’t a playoff team. I would say they would be if branch and Joseph weren’t hurt

I think this year is going to be different too. I think we are going to see aggressive Dan and Brad. I think watching Ben go in the playoffs has lit a fire under them.

Let’s hope so. FA signing is fun unless you’re not part of it.
