Lions grades: Coaching staff shines in dominating win over Sean Payton’s Broncos

The only one I disagree with is giving Goff an A. The guy couldn’t even throw 6 TD’s.

Fvucking noodle arm.

Did Jamo get hurt towards the end of the game? The broadcast said he went out gimpy after one of his catches late in the game, any word on his status?

I watched the game replay earlier and it just looked awkward, the defender didn’t really land on his legs but he got bent a weird way.

He walked it off on the sideline.

Lions game balls: Finally healthy, Ifeatu Melifonwu comes alive in secondary

Lions 42, Broncos 17

Winner: Jared Goff

He got a lot of flak in recent weeks for his inability to control the ball, but boy was he sharp back on Ford Field turf against a Broncos defense that had lately been hyped up for its return to form. With three passing TDs by halftime and another two after the break to seal a lopsided victory, he simply had no trouble spreading the ball all over Denver’s secondary to get Detroit to 10-4.

Loser: Sean Payton

Just not a whole lot of preparedness from the Broncos, at least by the looks of Denver’s ugly start to Saturday’s contest, which saw them drop into a 21-0 halftime hole. Things didn’t get much prettier late in the game, when a fourth-and-goal scoring attempt went awry and had Payton ripping into Russell Wilson after one of the Broncos’ O-linemen was flagged for offsides.

Winner: The Lions’ offensive future

It’s just hard not to like their long-term prospects at the skill spots when you actually see all the speed in working order. Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jahmyr Gibbs and even Jameson Williams were involved in the Lions’ big win over the Broncos, showcasing their shiftiness in different ways. No matter how this season finishes in Detroit, the arrow is pointing up for their weaponry.

The Broncos were shaping up to be the perfect Saturday night spoilers in Detroit, entering their Week 15 matchup with the Lions having won six of their last seven, and up against a quarterback in Jared Goff who’d recently struggled to control the ball. Instead, Motor City had a whole lot to celebrate, with Goff picking apart the Broncos’ resurgent defense in a 42-17 rout.

This should give you a good idea of their night: The Broncos opened Saturday’s game on offense with 1.) a fumble, 2.) a punt, 3.) a punt, 4.) a punt, 5.) a punt. Then halftime came, they pretended to flirt with a comeback, and it only got uglier. Yes, the Lions are tough at home, but this was supposed to be a winnable game for a resurgent Denver squad. Instead, Sean Payton’s offense looked unprepared and undisciplined, completely unable to move the ball on the ground; and the defense was even worse, allowing Jared Goff to have his way from start to finish. The playoffs aren’t totally out of reach, but this was no narrow defeat; it was a deflating kind of knockout from a much more well-rounded contender.

Lions
What could the Lions have done better, honestly? Everyone rightfully got a little skeptical of their prowess due to a recent string of tight games and turnovers, but they responded by picking apart Denver’s defense, with Jared Goff spreading the ball around and effortlessly dominating the red zone by targeting Sam LaPorta and Amon-Ra St. Brown. Perhaps even better, Aaron Glenn’s defense showed some real fight, getting after Russell Wilson early and completely swallowing up Denver’s rushing attack. The 42-17 score shows a Lions blowout, but it was even more lopsided than that. Yes, they’ve still got hurdles to clear against superior foes come playoff time, but for now, this club is all the way back on track.
