Can’t say I really disagree with the thought on who the most sought out candidate is. Good reason for it.
Vrabel. There, I just helped everyone not wanting to click the link . You have to do your den mates a solid and uphold the tradition of never having to read an article…
Good. Let every team go after every other candidate out there. Ben is just fine where he is.
Of course he isn’t after what happened last year. I can understand why teams would be hesitant.
That said, I’m surprised Robert Saleh isn’t mentioned here. It’s pretty clear he wasn’t the problem at all in NY.
I do think Glenn has the potential to be a better head coach. I could see BJ being a very successful Head Coach… I could also seeing him be better at just calling plays and not running the whole show.
If Glenn leaves I wouldn’t mind bringing in Saleh for DC
Vrabel would be at the top of my list. Above anyone else and it is not that close for me. I think he is a fantastic coach.
I am not 100% sure about Saleh. I would need to see him somewhere more sane before I could have a better idea. The Jets are just madness.
Which is why this whole discussion about Ben wanting a good place to land is funny. 90% of these job openings are at places that are dysfunctional hence why they fired coaches mid-season.
As I think most on here would agree. The very best place to go work would be Jax. Their owner gets it and is involved enough to show he cares but not so much that he is overly meddling (or so it appears). I think they need the right HC and GM that work together and it can be a very nice spot for someone. They have pieces but need someone to get it all to work better.
Vrabel’s the closest thing to Dan Campbell, so that’s a major factor.
Saleh may not have been the problem in NY, but he wasn’t the answer either.
Unlike Vrabel, Saleh has never won as a head Coach.
His best season was 7-10.
He not only fumbled the Rodgers QB situation, he didn’t handle the Wilson situation either.
He needs to go back and re-establish his credentials as a high end DC and leader before he will get another look as a Head Coach.
Saleh as DC is unlikely.
Most high end assistant coaching hires are from previous relationships.
I don’t see an obvious previous relationship between Dan and Saleh.
After being burned in the Anthony Lynn OC hire, I think Dan will lean towards people he trusts and has experience working together. This will likely be from within (Sheppard) or from a previous team (Dennis Allen).
Saleh likewise has a lot of options from the Shanahan tree of head coaches. He could return to SF, go to Cincy, Minnesota if Flores gets a head job.
I think it is unlikely that Saleh ends up in Detroit.
Ben Johnson is not a good head coaching candidate. He can only coach if his players are perfect and the other conditions like weather and refs are perfect too.
He’s at least 5 years away from being ready for a HC gig.
Boo… Hiss…
Maybe he’d be a good bridge HC?
