Per Twentyman, the team has so far allowed 47 20-plus yard plays this season. That’s 2nd most in the NFL, and a dire indictment of a secondary that has been decimated by injuries, player by player.

There’s probably some nuance to the stat. We do play at least half our games in a dome which likely leads to more explosive plays (for us and against us). We’ve played one of the hardest schedules and those teams have explosive players. And we are an explosive offense so teams know they better be bringing their offensive A games and likely take more chances against us to either keep up or catch up.
Some Lions stats this year-
- Explosive Play Rate: 4th in the NFL (12.6% for 15+ yard gains).
- Explosive Passes: 6th in explosive pass rate.
- Explosive Rushes: High rate, leading the league in 40+ yard runs (7) and ranking first in 20+ yard runs (14).

The secondary has been good enough.
ANY DB is gonna struggle when the QB has 4 seconds to throw.
Lions are Bottom 5 in Pass rush win rate.

Fun fact. Hutches FASTEST sack. According to NGS. 2.85s that was 1x. Every other sack was over 3s
By definition thats a COVERAGE SACK.
Before people yap. Crosby, Parsons, Garrett, watt all have multiple under 3.7s
Is Rodrigo back? I think the Lions need to rely more on the LB’s. This team has good LB’s. I mean, thats what Shep has kind of been doing instead of playing nickel. Keep roling with it. Have Barnes rush the passer more. All out blitzes. Give no time to throw. Play it do or die!

The coaching staff has decided to pretty much play exclusive man coverage, if you are going to do that you better get to the QB.

They gave JJ 9 McCarthy 3.25s and he torched the Lions for 143 yards, 2 TDS and 3 BIG plays
His season average is only 2.8s

I think you know what the proper response is
If you’re not first, you might be second.
The problem is if the Lions make it to the playoffs, and want to go somewhere, these are the level of teams they’re going to face. They’re not playing the Saints if they get to the NFC Championship game. They’ve got to learn to defend good teams with good players.
I do agree that our lack of consistent pass rush is lowering the ceiling of this team.

I agree with a lot of this but I don’t think you can “torch” a team with 143 yards passing….thats more like a Bic lighter…..that said, your point is taken…
