Lions pick up Gibbs 5th year option, decline Campbell's

Don’t think it means much, except that their market values diverge significantly from what the 5th year option commands. Both will get done.

Yaah Campbell’s was insane money for a linebacker. They will still sign him.

Yeah the tag and 5th year option numbers for LBs are screwy since they include rush-LBs like Von Miller, TJ Watt, etc…

I think they both get deals done in the next two weeks

Campbell’s would’ve been $22 million… Gibbs is just over $14 million… It’s prudent, but both will be extended

This was expected.

Seems like a pretty easy fix for the nfl.

It should be, but the players don’t want them to fix it. Gotta be collectively bargained, you know.

Next CBA will split OLB and MLB. Or simply group OLB with DE.

Parsons if you remember.
Dallas was gonna give him the 5th year option as a DE $21.4m but after getting traded to GB. The packers agreed to honor the LB option of $24.00m

I think the players might agree to the grouping of OLB with DE.

Would make the DE 5th year option (with 2+PB) over $29m and MLB only $20m vs what it currently is
$24m for DE and $27m for LB.

Brad was so cute 3yrs ago when he was up there, chastising the beat reporters about getting football players over premium positions.
