Lions re-sign Levi Onwuzurike - 1yr/5.5m

Not really. This is what his value is. Just because a bunch of nerds from PFF say he’s good doesn’t make him good. Happy we got him on a low risk deal.

I wouldn’t want to play Poker with the Villain, even if I had 3 Kings !!!..

Absolutely perfect deal for the Lions and a bit surprised that Levi couldn’t do better than THAT on the open market.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

I said this whole time everyone was underestimating what FOs were gonna think of his injury history. Some of the numbers thrown around boggled my mind.

Wow. Good work Brad.

And if this doesn’t signal the Lions are intent on drafting an interior DL high, nothing else will.

Brad Holmes is proving to be one of the best.

@CuriousHusker has a very valid opinion on this one.

This says Levi didn’t have many—if any—FA visits lined up.

Also, lets say congrats to Levi and hope he earns a big money deal with his play this year.

Got get it bud.

Yeah, I never brought into the 3 years $45m type deals thrown around but certainly thought somebody could offer better than this. He had an above average year at a premium position so I expected a $10m yr offer somewhere, like 2 years $20m roughly.

Anyway, the Lions desperately needed to fill the Alim gap and this helps.

We don’t know what the back looks like. Could remain a ticking time bomb which would have made itself evident during medical checks. The Lions know. Levi knows.

I only did bc it was Justin Rogers who said that and I don’t find Justin to be prone to hyperbole.

Yeah, but the medicals would have started today, right? This is why I say nobody was bringing him in. And why the Lions got him cheap. Not seeing the deets, yet, but he signed for not much more than Lopez.

Bring him back he increases his value and next year we let him move on and collect the comp bean

Officially, yes.

But as I argued the past couple of months we were a really, really good situation for him. Come back to a roster/staff he knows on a short-term deal, at the position he’s best at, and that he will have to himself for a decent chunk of the year (even when Alim comes back he won’t be back to his best for a while), and really set himself up for 2026.

Logically, we were always a really excellent fit. Now if Alim hadn’t gotten hurt, maybe not, but that’s not the situation.

After a Superbowl win that is.

I do remember the bad old days when the Lions were so desperate for talent they would have overpaid on this one… we’re in good hands.

For this price, why not sign him for multiple years? Maybe he only wanted a 1 year deal?

I actually really like this deal. More than the other DT yesterday. That’s a lot of money tied up into the DT position tho wow.

Last thought - Levi, DJ and new guy all are on expiring deals. So they are loaded up for this year then going to need to re-do the position next offseason.

Gotta love a player who will bet on himself. We’ll probably never know if he even got a sniff elsewhere. But, yeah.
