I think they beat up the master minds behind the great Airbnb heist, however they didnāt rat themselves out or return the goods. Then TAās thug squad ratted TA out after the poor innocent victimās ran to the cops (who would have thunked). TA didnāt think this one through. Must be that high quality āBamaā education, he should have went to Michigan. That was his first mistake.
this has been mentioned on here, multiple times before the arrest, and most posters would literally FIGHT YOU for bringing this up. the guy just hasnt been that good. doesnt mean he never would have turned it around, but he was absolutely over-valued on this board for sure. heck MCDC had him running with the scrubs in mini camp saying he has to earn it. he turned out to be a bad pick. its not the end of the worldā¦ā¦ but at the same time the whole āeverything brad holmes touches turns to goldā period has officially ended.
just to emphasize this more. Every other DB on the roster (aside from Rake, Abney and Jackson) have had significantly better PFF grades the last 2 seasons.
They need to make a trade. At least some type of CDIII 3rd round pick level trade. CDIII was a good player. They canāt go into the season with this 2ndary. This defense is about to get lit up.
Can I just vent here: a couple of points jump out at me.
WHY TF DIDNT THEY DRAFT A CB UNTIL THE 157th PICK? Itās not like it wasnāt obvious where this was going, anyone who read the incident report with half a brain could tell where this was headed. To the point where I even posted that if they take a CB in RD. 1 or 2 then we know, if not, then they MUST know more than we do. Turns out we knew, but for some genius reason they waited until the 6th rd. PATHETIC.
Iām still PI$$ED AF they didnāt take Dejean instead of trading up for Arnold. Hell, I would have even been happier if they took Lassiter instead of Arnold. I think 90% of the posters here were hoping they would take Dejean. This is so unbelievably EFFING STUPID, Iām beginning to think Holmes just got really lucky to have DC as he HC because he has the ability to motivate players to play at the highest level while Holmes gets called a genius GM.
Iām pretty sure I posted at some time during the draft that Holmes was beginning to believe his own hype and now he was just being arrogant with his picks. Just not acceptable. What the FUCCCK!
Also, it should be noted that I have been on the ālet Holmesā record speak for itself after some great draftsā, Iām not on any āfire Holmes bandwagonā.
DeJean is not an outside CB. Thatās what they need.
Who knows? Maybe they were blindsided by TA.
They could have skipped Miller. But OL is their priority always and rightfully so. The OL depth they have right now is amazing/ But for the rest of the 1st round the only CB taken was Chris Johnson. That CB class is kind of weak.
DE has always been the biggest need for this team for many years. And finally BH addressed it. But 2nd round picks whether CB or DE arenāt the most dependable when looking for a star player. Especially early. So, Iām not sure how much drafting a CB here would have helped. Not everyone can be BB. Look at Rake. He was a 2nd rounder.
CB had to take a back seat again. But I do think Abney has more potential than some of those 1st and 2nd rounders. But to me heās a NB.
People can say what they want. TA was a starting caliber CB who was getting better. He could have been great. This does hurt the team.
There are a few things that worry me. How good can Sewell be on the left, are the C/G going to be good, can Gibbs handle the big workload, will losing DMo hurt? I think they will be okay, and I think the Lions have a good chance to seriously compete again. But not with this 2ndary.
Brad needs to do what his old team does and make a big trade for a CB to push them into elite status again.
From everything I have heard, this is exactly what happened. The lions were always going to do the correct thing with this situation. They are not hypocrites. TA was not honest with them about his version of the events and apparently something came out today that did not jive with his version and they cut him.
Bc they had more pressing needs and they did the best they could. Regardless of TA this is still one of the deepest positions on the team.
Hindsight is 20/20. Yeah, some wanted Dejean, but the coaching staff didnāt.
I hope this is just a vent moment like you say bc this is a big overreaction otherwise.
Manu was the feeling himself pick and everything I have heard is that Brad has actually learned from that mistake and grown and his picks since have been a lot more tempered in subsequent drafts. Getting cocky isnāt the problem, itās a problem if you have no awareness and ability to correct when you see the mistake. Brad is a lot more locked into Servant leadership now like he was the first few years then he was in 2024.
