Good article, granted off season fluff but still.
LaPorta isn’t the only one who has been all over, out wide, slot etc so has Wright and Zylstra.
Then this from DC;
“I mean, I always make this argument, besides the quarterback, the tight ends have to know more than anybody else offensively,” Campbell said. “You’ve got to know it all. So, I think that’s why you don’t always see that. Well, it’s one of the reasons why we drafted LaPorta because we think he can handle a lot. We think he’s got versatility. Physically, he can do a little bit of everything, but also, mentally, he’s pretty sharp for a rookie. Now he’s got growing pains. He’s already gone the wrong way a couple of times, but that’s going to happen. But we think this guy is – that he’ll be able to pick this up pretty quick as he gets reps. So, we’re pretty hopeful that this guy can come on sooner than later.”
And one final comment, sounds like Goff and he have formed a good connection. Early in the article it stated that LaPorta has been on the same page with all three QB’s in the spring and OTA’s.
Listeners to MLive’s Dungeon of Doom podcast have heard us rave about his skills over the middle and after the catch messing with Goff. And the starting quarterback echoed those thoughts with a solid summation of LaPorta’s offseason showing.
“He gets himself open. He’s able to separate. He’s got great hands,” Goff said. “He’s done a hell of a job.”
