Lions select OT Blake Miller with 17th Pick

Again though, he was a slam dunk obvious pick, as we’ve been saying for months at this point. You’ve had plenty of time to get over any disappointment by this point lol.

I think Miller is plug and play from Day 1. I’m not sure Freeling is quite at that same level - may have the higher ceiling though. We’ll see how it plays out. Regardless, no one should be surprised by this pick. He was one of a handful of VERY obvious Lions guys that was going to possibly be available at 17.

Right. I had Freeling higher personally, but only by 2 spots. And only due to a slightly higher ceiling (I think Miller has a much higher floor.

This pick started to feel so obvious that it felt weird to see mocks with the Lions taking someone else. Between Dan saying he wanted Sewell at LT, and the grit Miller plays with, team captain, always playing for his teammates - he was as obvious a pick as you’ll find. I love it. I think he’s a perfect fit.

Mahogs, Frazier, Scruggs, Bartch. There will be a brutal competition for that LG spot.

This is so weird. Apparently they didn’t think Larry Borom was a full time starter.

Blake Miller. OL/OT. Clemson Blake reminds me a lot of the #Bills RT Spencer Brown. Blake’s size and overall athleticism are about the same, as are their playing style and limitations. He shows good, solid lateral agility and looks to be a better pass blocker than a run blocker because of his size. When Blake runs blocks, he engages and then forgets to keep moving his feet. This is because he is so big that he thinks he can just overpower the player in front of him with his strength, and that’s just not true. Not moving his feet causes him to lunge and lose balance, putting his hands where they should not be to defeat that player. Blake is smart, picks up stunts, and does a decent job of going to the next level to make a block, but at times, he struggles with his change of direction because he is too aggressive. All of these issues are very correctable, and as soon as Blake is shown that he must correct them or he won’t be successful, he will do so quickly. Blake is a better pass blocker right now, and that is more important for an OT coming out of college. It shows he has the athleticism to improve, and with his work ethic and leadership skills, he will improve quickly and become a starting OT for years to come for the team that selects him. He will have to adjust his pad level and not give up his chest before he snaps the ball. Giving up his chest allows players to gain leverage and easily bull rush him. Blake has played a lot at Right Tackle, but there is talent there to move to Left Tackle in the future if need be. In this draft, if there is a run on offense lineman, Blake could be selected in the 1st round. If there is a run on defensive linemen, he might slip back into the second round. With 5 teams having double-picks in the 1st, anything could happen. That being said, his talent to be a plug-and-play offensive tackle would not be smart to pass up if your team needs an offensive tackle, don’t you think?

54 straight starts in the ACC. Team captain. I expected Freeling but Miller finishes this OL too.

Sewell, Mahogany (if he beats out 2/3 other guys), Cade Mays, Tate Ratledge and now Blake Miller. Borom swing. Juice Scruggs back up. Miles Frazier back up. Room for one more?

Extra tackle packages are going to be sick this year.

Borom will start…bet!

This team is kinda junky without a solid OL.

We now have a solid OL again.

iheanachor woulda been a better pick for us…..

I just said the other day I wasn’t sure what the Lions were going to do with Frazier… however at this point it feels obvious the Lions are going to try Frazier at Guard. Let Borom, MIller and Sewell be your tackles

2026 OL > 2025 OL by far.
