I’m aware of the round he was picked in lol. It’s ok, not everyone has to love every pick. My opinion doesn’t matter to how he impacts the team. Just leaving a comment on a message board…
I think he’ll simply be something a little new. Not a like for like replacement for anyone. Certainly there will be overlap with Kalif, but you can also hand Law the ball, which overlaps a little more with ARSB
I probably have said this one too many times, but I do wonder if the Lions might be into outside zone blocking more than the past. Miller should be just fine doing it. They got excellent blocking WRs. They got Law and Dortch now too for sweeps etc. And ARSB. And JAMO. And an OC who lived in that world prior to the LIons
Lions drafted him to play special teams for 90% of his snaps or more.
If he does get offensive snaps, he was a very good run blocking WR, so he may be on the field just to give someone a breather.
And… if they want him to touch the ball, it might be gadget plays or quick short passes to start.
If he develops, he has the solid build (weighs 203 pounds) to hold up on the outside. Jayden Reed just aigned a $50 million deal and is ~ 1 inch shorter, but weighed 15 pounds less coming out of MSU.
I think WR blocking is key to a run game nowadays no matter what scheme you run. The Rams shifted TO a gap scheme but have probably the best blocking WRs in the league. If you want to turn 3 yarders into 10 yarders, it’s key. I don’t think the scheme really matters too much (though you can’t have BAD blocking WRs in zone, for sure).
Most of those late guys that pan out tend to put up around 1000/10 at some point, even if at a small school. Puka is a weird outlier that had a best year at 800/6, but he had a high ypc at 19 that year.
