If nothing else, maybe he can take Houston’s spot on special teams. Might save a broken ankle on a guy we are counting on.
I actually like the Davenport signing though. If he stays healthy we could really have something. If not, he’s gone at the end of the year.
There isn’t much to lose really.

People banging on Davenport as a guy who is injured all the time. As I remember, many were ready to trade a first for Chase Young. Last 3 years Chase Young missed 23 games, Davenport missed 21 games. If you want to bang on this signing, go ahead and come with his productivity, not injuries because he’s as injury prone as the guy you wanted to give a first round pick for. Oh wait, last 4 years Young had 16.5 sacks, Davenport had 13.

He still tricks me. I thought he wasn’t going to play comp picks this year. But now with Jonah gone, Carlton Davis snagged without comp consequences, and Josh Reynolds and perhaps CJGJ balancing the Davenport signing–Brad could snag a 4th rounder in 2025.

It’s always so hard to tell what he’s doing in the background and what other gears are turning. No one expected him to grab CJGJ last year. I don’t know if he’s playing the comp game as much as he is playing the not overpaying game - whether you want to count overpaying in terms of $ or term. He’s proven to be very prudent and shrewd in his dealings and I think the start of the tampering period this year is no different.

That would not surprise me at all. Without knowing the numbers, I’d think that most of the continually good teams are utilizing comp picks to the max.

Seriously. Could have signed a MUCH better and consistently healthy Van Ginkel for the same price.
This is a major fk up.
Davenport has missed an AVERAGE of 7 games/yr the last 4yrs…he’s the oldest he’s ever been…and he hasn’t been very good when healthy recently.
Complete waste of money. Not an upgrade over R Okwara, C Harris, etc.
Flat out stupid.
Van Ginkel is superfluous with Houston. Honestly he hardly plays the same position as Davenport.

Van Ginkel was an outstanding edge rusher for Miami. Nice diction. Look at his stats.
And Davenport plays the same position as you, “not available”.

Van Ginkel is tiny for an edge. Smaller than Houston even. Miami didn’t make him an every down player until they had to when injuries killed them. He’s a good player, but Davenport at his ceiling is better. And if he’s hurt and doesn’t play, well then we’re only paying him 6 million. Big deal. It’s low risk high reward.

What?? Van Ginkel’s the exact same weight at Houston and 3 inches taller. AND HAS A HISTORY OF BEING HEALTHY.
What is it about some human brains that just enjoy either A) stating false things they know absolutely nothing about. Or B) stating false things that they know are false.
