All I know is this guy looks like a STUD

And he got the same contract Deatrich Wise got who is 3 years older.

I like that we got him Roy g biv Lopez at age 28 season.

I have a sudden urge to rewatch Desperado.

I agree he will be a good addition. It just don’t seem fair that his contract would cancel out a comp pick for Zeitler. Zeitler was paid twice as much.

Yeah we need Vildor to come through for us as a qualifying contract to cancel out Lopez so we get that 5/6 from Zeitler.

Highly doubtful. So yah, it’s all up to Tim Patrick for the comp pick.

A trade down from 102 to 105 will get us a similar level pick without costing us the guy we want. Better to just sign Patrick.

But we could get Cooper Kupp and 2 of those picks if we do that same trade down

That extra pick could turn into the next ZDarius Smith at the next trade deadline.

Sooo

Kupp, ZDarius, and extra pick

Or

Tim Patrick

Sure but there are many more ways to get the picks than to let players we want to sign or keep go. Just look how many Brad added by trading down twice in 2023. He then used the bulk of them to trade back up for Bromart, but my point is it’s much easier to add day 3 picks in the draft than it is the comp pick formula.

Yes I’m aware of that. But it’s still part of the master equation

That’s why you see the same usual suspects, the good Franhcises , acquiring comp picks.

I’ve made the point many times that on draft day draft picks have less value as they are tossed around like nothing.

During the season / trade deadline they have more value.

That’s why those same usual suspects are always active at the trade deadline.

Yes I was a big fan of trade down for Gibbs
Yes I was a big fan of trade up for Arnold

The more ammo you have the more dictating you can be.

Great press conference. Lions definitely have a type of player they like.

I think there’s a chicken and egg aspect to it. Obviously good franchises are going to have players other teams want, so the better a team, the better FA contracts the players will get.

I also don’t think it’s as simple as “good teams do it and bad teams don’t.” The Bengals, Cowboys, Seahawks, Cardinals and Giants are 5 of the 10 ten teams re: comp picks rewarded. So I’d say it’s little more than a coin flip (the Eagles aren’t in the top ten btw).

…Cheap teams that don’t re-sign their own players also get comp picks.

but some different numbers appeared on OTC today.

$3.5 million APY for a rotational player……
