Campbell got all pro and his 5th year option became the franchise tag number is my understanding. Do the lions still have to pay that number for his 5th year or can an extension change it?

They declined the fifth year option, the 4yr extension will stand on it’s own, but it will be based on the franchise tag amount, top tier players command it.

I am very interested to see how the contract is laid out. With just over half guaranteed. means 2.5 years or so guaranteed

If 2.5 years are guaranteed… that means 3 years are virtually guaranteed.
For a position other than QB, that is as good as it gets.
Achane’s details came out today, and Dolphins can release him with 2 years remaining and pay ZERO cash. If needed… they could even release him right after 2027 season (with 3 years remaining of the 4 year deal) and only owe him $3 million in 2028 as long as he can pass a physical.

Like I said, he was going to get $20m+. The market resets every year as the cap keeps rising and he’s arguably the best off ball LB in the league, IMO this is right in line with what he was expected to get, maybe even a little less tbh. He’s getting better every year but tere’s still some growth potential left in him especially in pass coverage, great player even as is.

19 mil, 20 mil, 21 mil average - just glad it’s done. The guy is a cornerstone on defense and the clear and obvious captain moving forward. The crazy thing is he may still yet be on the way up. First team all pro that seems crazy to say he’s still getting better…. But if our DL comes out swinging this season Campbell may go super saiyan
