Lions sign Jack Campbell to extension thru 2030

LIONS SIGN LB JACK CAMPBELL TO CONTRACT EXTENSION THROUGH THE 2030 SEASON

Allen Park, Mich. – The Detroit Lions announced today that they have signed LB Jack Campbell to a contract extension through the 2030 season. Additional contract terms were not disclosed.

Campbell originally came to Detroit as the 18th-overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft out of Iowa. Since then, he has appeared in 51-career games (46 starts) and registered 380 tackles (200 solo), 19 tackles for loss, 13 quarterback hits, 10 pass defenses, 8.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and 22 special teams tackles (10 solo). He is the fourth player in franchise history to post at least 125 tackles in consecutive seasons (2024-25).

In 2025, he earned his first career First-Team AP All-Pro and Pro Bowl selections after producing the second-most tackles (166) in a season by any Lions player since 1987. Campbell also became the first player in NFL history to produce a season with at least 155 defensive tackles and 10 special teams tackles.

Not surprised in the least. Well expected before the start of the season.

Does he receive any bad positional value bonuses?

What a stud Jack Campbell turned into last year. Rock steady in the middle of that defense. Did not think he had this type of 1st Team All-Pro ceiling after we drafted him and his rookie season was “average”. His continuing ascendancy is a testament to daily dedication and the organization’s particular strength in helping these young homegrown players develop into champions. I suspect Spielman may have humbly, anonymously played a key role in Jack’s growth as well, though he would never admit it.

The most no brainer extension out of the 4.

Gibbs is LIKELY coming soon (before camp)

LaPorta probably closer to regular season starts

Branch, likely not till he plays

He’s actually the one who injures. How many teammates have he friendly fire hurt?

My prediction.

4 years $70m $35 fully guaranteed at signing. Up to $48m guaranteed. With 2030 being virtually completely fluff

I’m going to say $85M/4yr, $45M fully guaranteed with another $17M fully guaranteed for 2029, guaranteed in 2028 . Campbell has more leverage than Gibbs. No fluff in 2030, pure $22M cash due, Lions generally don’t have fluff.

I highly doubt he gets that much. Thats what his 5th year option was. If he was gonna get that much they would have picked up his option then a 3 year extension. Basically the same thing.

Over $17.5m aav. Under 19m aav

And St Brown and McNeil both have fluf. Not extreme fluff like you see some teams doing, But under 25% dead cap vs Cap in their last active year. Thats fluf to me.

He’s arguably the best off ball LB in the league so anything under 4 years $80m would be a steal. I expect $20m/yr+

Fred Warner and Roquan Smith are the only 2 off ball LBs over $20m and they play in a LB heavy defense. Running 3-4 or even 2-5. Also i would argue gold jacket guys. and that’s their 2nd extension. Baun and Shaair both just got paid $17&18m those guys are a bit more comparable. So call it $18.5 to beat them. Even $19m aav.

I dont see him getting close to $20
