Is that Kickalicious guy still around?
Figure what out? I knew this from the beginning. Just another failed attempt from the lion’s organization.
Any relation to David Blough?
Letting Prater go is, by far, the most puzzling move of the Holmes era which is good and bad. Good that letting a kicker go is the worst move which says a lot about his offseason as a whole but bad because… Zane Gonzalez. I know that Prater fell off a bit last season and is getting old but he’s still a top 5 kicker in the league most likely.
All had to do with age and pay rate.
Holmes didn’t want virtually anyone on the roster who couldn’t be around in 2-3 years when they hope the rebuild takes hold.
This was my initial impression. But we have some wise members here who point to the data. That made me reconsider what Holmes was thinking. Prater just turned 37 today!!! And he’s coming off of what could be considered the worst season of his career. He missed the most kicks and most extra points than he has ever missed…ever. And percentage wise it was the lowest percentage he ever had since his rookie year for kicks and lowest for extra points.
I love Prater and he gave us some wonderful memories (the super long kick to send the game into overtime vs the Vikings deserves a hold jacket in my collection by itself). But the reality is the reality if you are coming in from the outside and you have to look at the data and situation and make a decision. My instincts were to keep Prater until people here pointed me to the data.
How did this guy never get an NFL gig?!?!
He went 3-for-3 in his one pre-season game for us. But was cut in favor of Akers. That’s when he was 28. Now he’s 36.
That was 8 years ago?! Holy smokes time flies. Also I didn’t know he was that old when he started. Thanks for the info!
I couldn’t believe it was eight years ago, either. I was thinking maybe four years ago!
“Wtf did we not resign Prater?”
… ok how is any normal person not supposed to interpret that how it is.
He banged every HC’s woman…
Oh no seriously? Or was that a joke? Sorry if I’m being obtuse!
But seriously the guy had skill. I thought he got signed by someone else at some point but just never made it in.
Gotta say, being a kicker in the nfl is a tough group to break into and even tougher to stay in. Has to be one of the toughest positions to make a career.
Just a little sarcasm. A play on Jarred Goff’s “I would pipe Sean’s girlfriend” text that got leaked.
Lol ok I thought so but then again I was wondering if I missed something!
Zane & Praters numbers seem pretty close
I had no problem at all with the Lions moving on from Prater. Prater declined more than a little last season. Prater is no spring chicken. It wasn’t unreasonable to think that Prater would continue to be not what he was. Now, maybe Prater has rededicated himself and will be awesome in AZ. But Holmes thought what I thought: that Bullock would be a steady, solid, worthy replacement.
It’s Bullock not living up to expectations that’s causing all of this chaos; not getting rid of Prater.
spilt milk, now we have Zane.
Does Bullock have expectations though?
We have a Huge Tradition at that position…he is just pretty meh.
Under 30-98% career (missed 1)
30-39-90%
40-49- 80%
50+ 46% (12/25 in 9 seasons)
So not called on tontry a lot of deep FGs
Missed 7 xp in 5 yrs since rule change 137/144. NFL average is 95%, so is he.
