Detroit trades up to #3, Houston takes Anderson - Detroit needs to trade #3 and move back out to a team wanting Stroud and thus need to have teams believing they could take him for themselves, as well as paying to leapfrog Indy.
Detroit could get more for #3 than they give up if traded for it now if Stroud was on the clock at #3 than team trading with AZ now assuming Richardson or Anderson.
I agree little chance he falls, but I do believe in doing your do diligence. If he blows them away, then they have to consider it.
I think at this point you have a team bought in to Goff, itās gonna take yrs to gain the experience Goff has, a d the reality is you still have Goff for 2 yrs. So you essentially end up with saved cap room for 2 ir 3 yrs and are starting an inexperienced QB as your window is wide open.
Im not sure how the team buys in, unless Goff loses their trust. I donāt see that happening, he appears to do everything right.
That said, as important as QB is, they are absolutely doing the right thing. We didnāt expect Sewell to be there either, crazy things can happen
Or they could of course just take Stroud.
I feel like we have genuine interest in a QB but I donāt know if weād take one with our first pick because that takes away the option of Goff continuing to play well and locking down the starting job for the future.
The one thing we know Holmes will do is heāll keep as many options open for as long as possible. It seems to me like Hendon Hooker in the 2nd allows us to keep the most options open, because either Goff is replaced because he asks for too much, or Goff doesnāt ask for too much and we arenāt forced to play our new guy because we didnāt take him top 6.
I think you nailed it
You know better than I do but the gulf between Stroud and Hooker seems pretty wide.
Yeah it is.
Itās the difference between whatever the #6 (or #3) salary is and a 2nd round salary.
Itās also the difference between the pressure to play your top 6 pick and signing the death certificate of Goffās time here and then keeping the option open for Goff to still start long term.
Sure Stroud is the better player, but thereās two sides to look at this from.
Iām wondering if thereās other motives here. I think Will Anderson is their target. With rumors that Houston could take him and try to trade up for a qb, Detroit is pushing the idea we are coming up for Stroud or qb to push Houston into taking their guy. That way Detroit could look at trading to 3 for Anderson.
You know better than I do but the gulf between Stroud and Hooker seems pretty wide.
Itās really not as wide as people think. If Hooker hadnāt gotten hurt thereās a strong chance heās the 3rd QB off the board. Most think heād be a top 10 lock for sure.
I do think the Lions are hoping he drops to round 2 but it wouldnāt shock me if we took him at 18OA.
All validā¦.
Iāve liked a lot of QBHaters stuff of late, but I canāt get along with the sentiment of what Goff is league wideā¦
What I have seen is 3 years of truly elite playā¦. If you want to call Robert Woods or rookie Kull elite weaponsā¦. Sure. It was Goff, Gurley and some guysā¦. If we want to pretend, Reynolds, Wright, Ra and Swaggy are an elite castā¦ sure-
Goff has been an elite, pro bowl, bordering non MVP level QB when not saddled with garbageā¦.
Itās funny how when Stafford is healthy, has elite weapons, and producers itās talent- when he doesnāt itās OL, injuries, supporting cast?
Yet with a shit OL, bad D, and banged up WRs and a fried RB it was Goffs limitations?
Big Ben- 6 seasons 4,000 yardsā¦12 under and 7 under 3,400!!! 9 seasons under 24 TDs!!! 13 seasons under 98 rating? 12 season with 11 or more ints. MOST of his seasons we like Goffs last 2 years in LA- yet many think he was elite
.
JG to CJ Stroud would be an easy transition. Wouldnāt have to change the offense. CJ would do well here IMO.
Again the issue isnāt whether we think Goff is good or not because we (as in Brad and Dan and those guys) clearly do. The issue is whether or not Goff asks for 50M+ and we donāt want to give it to him because thatās bad roster management.
And if we have a guy that we can turn to it has to make the negotiations easier for us. Gives us leverage.
Most think heād be a top 10 lock for sure.
Who are most? Heāll finish his first contract at 30. I donāt think āmostā would have Hooker top ten.
Nope, Iāve been consistent with Stafford and Goff on that. From jump said we handicapped Goff, which I thought was a mistake. If the question is who is better, thatās different. I am a fan of Goff, and have no issues with him as our QB of the future. Heās 28 and right at the point heās primed for his best ball of his career iver the next 7 yrs
Or, could be that the front office is trying to negotiate an extension with Goff and theyāre turning up the pressure to bring down the price. Not many QBās out there that go to three teams without getting the ājourneymanā tag. Goffās agent should know journeyman pay is less than face of the franchise pay.
The Lions will never be in a better negotiating position.
Kinda creepy this guy is taking photos of everyone showing up but hey cj stroud representing Jamo!
Found this chart of QB accuracy on passes over 20 air yards during the 2022 season. Goff ranking in the middle at 46.5%. Josh Allen with 83 attempts is pretty crazy.
Lamar dead last if you donāt include Mariota, who put together this shitshow in just one game last year, (of course a Thursday Night Amazon Crapfestā¢ļø) which should permanently disqualify him from his left nut, let alone this list and the NFL
Patrick Mahomes with only 1 passing TD of over 20 air yards. Yeah, he might be missing Tyreek Hill.
Who are most? Heāll finish his first contract at 30. I donāt think āmostā would have Hooker top ten.
Are you claiming heās not worthy because of his age?
Hereās just a few links that support my take.

Hendon Hooker is ranked as the third best QB in the NFL Draft by several teams, according to James Palmer. Where will he go in the draft?
Thereās countless info out there that suggests otherwise. If not for the injury I think itās a different story on Hooker. Hereās a few more for good measure.
