Lions trades, value and discussion

Didn’t Sika have some medical concerns which may be why he was still available at 97 and why BH jumped in front of them.

Interesting, most of the “draft media” types had the Lions trades being pretty good, not all of them but to say none were particulary good seems a stretch.

I think the first four will be instant starters/heavy useage rotation guys so the goodwill definitely continues from first two years.
I also wonder how much the area scouts talk with other area scouts while at these various pro days, combine etc and what scuttlebut they pick up that can impact when someone goes.

I am not as optimistic about this as other here. It is pretty rare for any team to have four consecutive 1st + 2nd rounders jump in and contribute at a high level. I’m not singling any player out, just playing the odds.

As strong as the Lion drafts in '21 and ‘22 were neither of their 2nd round picks jumped in and contributed much their first year, and one is starting to look busty. This in addition to Williams’ known recovery time, limited contribution, and subsequent suspension.

LaPorta will be limited as a rookie. All real TEs are. The ones that contribute right away for more than a game here and there are playing WR and not TE. I think Gibbs, Campbell and Branch are slam dunks to contribute minus some kind of injury. Branch will be a bit of a liability at times, like most rookie DBs.

Funny. Yeah, space-eater he is. Just looking through more recordings of him and you can see him lining up over the Guard the same way Schwartz would use him. He’ll be a nice compliment to their defense, but definitely not the star of the DL. I don’t believe they have their star there yet (Suh, Cox, Haynesworth), but Ika will compliment that player nicely when he arrives.

He may have had medical concerns. Others here are much smarter on that stuff than I am. The Lions jumping up in the draft has to be due to anticipating other teams needing DT help. The Browns and Minny both needed help, so Brad & Co were undoubtedly looking to get ahead of them. Browns were left with Ika (better fit anyway) and the Vikes were left searching for other players in that tier.

Keep in mind that I am including ST performance as part of this. I think you see Branch on ST day one possibly Laporta.

I agree 100% with the Walter football trade evaluations. They seemed desperate to get Martin but I would rather let Brad throw 3 more darts.

Hopefully Brodric → never as a Lions fan have I wanted to have a late round guy over-achieve like I want thi guy to.

What if……

DT- McNeill/Levi (Alim is wayyy slimmed down)

NT- B Martin/I Buggs

DE- Paschal/Comish

Edge- Hutch/Romeo

ILB- J Campbell/Barnes

ILB- Anzalone/Rodrigo

SLB- C Harris/Da Problem

CB- Sutton

CB- E Moseley/J Jacobs

FS- K Joseph/Walker

SS- CJGJ/Branch

As you can see we are one boundary CB away from a stacked 2 deep at every position 3-4 depth chart

The more I look at our depth chart, the more I wonder why Marcus Peters isn’t already here?

I could easily see the Lions adding another depth piece to both the outside CB and traditional S roles. Quality depth is not great at either position.

I think CB and DT maybe…

Safety- Branch, CJGJ, Walker, Joseph , Iffy seems enough

CJGJ/Branch will see more nickel than traditional safety and Iffy sucks.

Here’s an analysis of the Lions trades, Picks traded vs picks received measured by various pick value charts, curtesy of @josephjefe (on twitter), he does an analysis of all teams trades:
