Hopefully, one of those late round draft picks turns into a diamond in the rough. Wingo’s going to be in a fight for his life for a roster spot.
From the article:
“With the Lions traditionally keeping five interior players (six if you include the “Big” ends), you could surmise that after the trio of McNeill, Williams, and Onwuzurike, the Lions could be looking for one nose tackle (Tufele or Keanaaina) and one pass rusher (Wingo or Gill-Howard) to emerge from the depth battles.”
So at DT, it looks like that’s the group to watch, with Alim, Tyliek, Levi locks, plus two of Tufele, Keanaaina (heretofore to be called Keanu), Wingo, and Gill-Howard.
If he can stay healthy. I really hope so.
Coming off an ACL tear this time so who knows. The good news is the surgery took place before training camp even started last year. So he’s had a full year to recover. Not like Alim trying to play last year after 8 or 9 months.
Levi O tops my list for a “surprise cut.”
Really? That would surprise me unless he’s not anywhere close to back to healthy. Then again they would just put him on injured reserve if that was the case. Looking at the DT depth chart and the losses of Reader and Lopez. I think we need Levi to play well.
The FORGOTTEN Piece- Levi Onwuzurike:
I do like that guy but he reminds me of Kramer in the episode where he drank too much coffee.

Assuming health, I think Wingo has more snaps than anticipated. He should have grown into his football professional body and hopefully the injuries are past. I really liked the pick, but the injuries have just been death to his career.

Who would be surprised? We’ve seen this movie before, Brad and Dan finally moving on from a guy.
His salary and cap hit is dirt cheap, $1.25mish, so he’s easy to part ways with now.
On the other hand, if he roars back into form and can contribute nicely, he’s a hell of a bargain.
As of now he’s penciled in as a top 3 DT. Definitely one to watch in camp.

He was a healthy scratch all last season besides 2 games, both against the Bears
