Lions vs. Cardinals: Everything we know from Detroit's Week 3 road win

A few notes that interested me:

Saw the Lions run that hook-and-ladder in training camp and the defense couldn’t stop it even when they knew it was coming. Caught the Cards off-guard. Great block by LaPorta down the field to help Gibbs get the TD.

–Rookie CB Terrion Arnold had an all-around great game in pass coverage. He was guilty of one pass interference penalty, but he neutralized star Cards rookie WR Marvin Harrison Jr. when matched up against him in the battle of first-rounders. Harrison caught his TD on Carlton Davis.

–The Lions had not used an extra offensive lineman in the first two weeks. Dan Skipper reported as eligible on nine plays, all runs, and the Lions gained over 50 yards on those plays. Detroit led the NFL in tackle-eligible plays over the 2022-2023 seasons.

–Linebacker Derrick Barnes (knee) and DT Alim McNeill (shoulder) each left the game with injuries and were ruled out. Safety Brian Branch also left late in the game with a neck injury after a vicious collision that also knocked Cardinals TE Trey McBride out of the game.

–The play where Barnes was injured was a textbook clipping penalty that went uncalled. When was the last time you saw a clipping penalty called?

–Arizona’s running backs gained 32 yards on 13 carries.

It looked a lot like the play that was run in the January 2023 game at Lambeau. Has anyone made that comparison, or looked at the two side-by-side?

Odd that the D could never stop it. It seems primarily dependent on ARSB getting open enough to have time to make the toss. And, you know, if he were getting that open all the time he’d have 400 yards receiving on the year already.

I’ll be honest, I’m a bit jealous of Cardinals fans. I love the Lions and midget porn and those two things only overlap when we play the Cardinals. If I was a Cardinal fan, every week would be like Christmas. And that’s more than you wanted to know about the week three road win.

I was thinking the same during the game. After going through the play on the DVR last night, it wasn’t clipping. It was a low block but they were inside the TE box. (Pictures are in the “dinged up” thread)
