And he just might be if he gets help on the Dline. Reader eating double teams, frees up Alim more for one on ones. Get pressure in the qb’s face so he can’t step up and Hutch may just have 20 sacks. Also need Davenport and Houston to make plays.
Last year Hutch was getting doubled or chipped constantly cause we had little else up front to scare anyone and he was still very good.
To me, it makes sense to:
Double team the DT that is killing you… because one of them is.
Keep a RB back to slow down whoever is breaking through.
Chip (at minimum) Hutch with a TE to assist the Tackle that has the “honor” of blocking him and then send TE to the flat for checkdown in case.
This leaves a 1x1 with either a DE or DT depending on the RBs read. It also limits the number of players out on a route.
Hutch can elevate to best defensive player but he will be fighting through a tackle and a chip or tackle and te… less if we blitz. He has the talent and motor to do this.
If we stay healthy, we should pummel weak teams and be a rough game for any team in the league.
Good points…Hutch has also been quite successful when moved inside over guards on 3rd downs… Houston and Hutch side by side I like a lot on obvious passing downs.
