can we get jamo those passes instead? good lord.
And Leaf. The guy just produces when called upon.
I feel like our receiver room is in great shape. If one of the guys goes down for a bit, I believe we will se what DPJ has t offer.
In the meantime, he and Goff can keep working on timing.
DPJ probably won’t get many looks unless someone gets hurt. If Leaf has to miss any time you plug DPJ in at punt returner and slot #2 behind St Brown. Trading for him was kind of a luxury move, but he does provide depth and experience at the position.
Not everyone NEEDS to play. It’s not rec little league. It’s almost like a needed a….
DT- Leonard Williams 2 sacks 5 games
Edge- Sweat 2.5 sacks 4 games
CB- Douglas 3 turnovers 4 games
OG- E Cleveland, 152 snaps and good rating
More than a WR5???
A needed red zone addition. Got to get him some looks there.
Odd how Ben doesn’t feature a fade to the corner, probably the most common and basic way to attack the end zone. Is this a throw JG is uncomfortable making, or have we simply lacked the type of receiver to do it? Well, now there is DPJ.
The thing about Williams is that he was very affordable:
but the trade compensation was not:
Traded to Seattle (SEA) from New York (NYG) for 2024 2nd round pick and 2025 5th round pick
The other thing about Williams is that the Seahawks are 1-4 since his arrival with the Seahawks defense giving up 41, 35, 26, and 37 points in 4 of those games.
I was sure he would pass Jamo in importance.
Glad it seems like Jamo is coming along
Seems to be working fine without using that out dated play
yeah, i think the trade at the time was solid, but now that they are dangerously close to missing the playoffs (i think they arent getting in)
they gave up alot for a 1 year rental where they may not even make the dance.
I know the horse beaten to death regarding the trade deadline, but I can’t help but be a bit concerned about how some of our personnel moves went.
When guys like Elliott, E Brown, Swift, etc have had amazing years for their pay… and guys we chose to extend like C Harris, I Buggs, Comish, have been useless?
When you consider the “late round gem genius” mantra Holmes gets…. Last years “gems” have been relegated to ST mostly, or healthy scratches…. Even Houston was in the doghouse and injured playing ST, when we clearly and desperately needed edge help.
- don’t tell me Romeo or Comish were popping in camp or practice, they both look like molasses!
What about this years gems? Poised for a deep playoff run this year had a pair of 3rds, 5ths and a 6th and 7th
Hurt backup QB
Raw deactivated DT
Raw terrible OG (so far)
Raw WR who we clearly didn’t think much of- ala peoples-jones
Plus-
Rodrigo- ST and part time FB
Mitchell- 46 offense snaps
Houston- injured on ST
Kerby - 58 rating, regressed from last year.
That is 8 picks from rounds 3-7 in 2 years….
Hmmm. You haven’t noticed how the passing offense has struggled to get into the end zone at times?
And is the fade really outdated? It’s designed to be undefendable. It requires a perfect throw against one on one coverage where the receiver either beats a defender to the corner, or is able to high-point over the DB. And if the defense feels like it has to double (think Calvin) then that opens our other weapons.
Really, I think we never run it because we don’t have the right WR for it… I dunno.
EDIT: You’re correct Luther, it is outdated. As I recall now, the push out of bounds rule really put a damper on the fade, as receivers trying to high point in the corner can be pushed out. So, the only way to do it is the race to the back corner with feet down before going out of bounds. Used to be pushing a mid-air receiver out was ruled a catch.
YES!
Ezra Cleveland and Rasul Douglas…those two killed me to see
Unfortunately they were both division teams, not sure if they would of even dealt with us as we are in the divisionlead and they are still in contention.
That is the thing… we all want to complain about the trade deadline but we dont know what holmes did or didnt try to do… also, could you imagine the bitching if we traded for williams or sweat and we still weren’t getting sacks but we gave up what was given up and paid sweat?
In reality, we have lost 1 game since the trade deadline… we have flaws and holmes may have worked to try to address them we wont ever know unless a 30 for 30 on this lions team comes out a decade or two from now.
Yeah I agree with this 100%.
DPJ was brought it to create depth, and pressure, and he also has the jump ball ability to get contested catches that the Lions lack. He brings a skill set the Lions lacked. Can we all agree the best possible situation on any team or in any position group is to have legit backups that could start somewhere else? This is how winning is done. A great move by Holmes. These are the little moves that make a difference.
Can he play CB?
I kid, I kid … but can he?
As for dpj, we always joke about goff taking 6 weeks or so go get comfortable with a new target (not named laporta) maybe there is quite a bit of truth to that seeing jamo is starting to come on and how long it took with ARSB and chark
With Evan Brown, I don’t think it was about the money for 2023 on either side of the equation. Brown signed a one-year contract with the Seahawks because he wanted the opportunity to start and he wasn’t going to get it with Frank Ragnow ahead of him.
Swift? The unrestricted free agent to be had a couple of great games early, but has largely cooled off since then During a 6 game stretch between October 1 and November 5, Swift had 90 carries for 306 yards, 3.40 ypc, and 2 rushing TDs. He chipped in 25 receptions for 152 yards, a 6.0 ypr.
Not exactly “amazing.”
The Lions haven’t lost anything by trading Swift for a 2025 4th Rd pick. The duo of Gibbs-Montgomery, with a little help from Craig Reynolds, have more than filled the gap.
Deshon Elliott? Yes, he’s having a nice season, but at one point last season, he was benched and largely only got back in the lineup due to an injury. And, it’s hard to complain when the Lions had what appeared to be an up and coming S in Kerby Joseph, a returning Tracy Walker, plus adding CGJ via FA and Brian Branch in the draft–the latter being a more long term investment.
C Harris was extended before the 2022 season, not 2023, and was coming off a 2021 where he had 7.5 sacks. Buggs and Commish both had pretty good years in 2022, so re-signing both made sense at the time. The former hasn’t panned out and the latter has been serviceable–albeit withou the splash plays of 2022.
IMO the Swift takes here are influenced by:
A:) people that pounded the table for him in that draft and want to be right
B:) people that want to utilize Swift’s performance as part of their Gibbs’ positional draft value argument
Swift is fine. He’s a decent RB. As you alluded to his performance has been buoyed by a two game stretch in which he was able to take advantage of massive holes. IMO it’s quite clear that Gibbs was a significant upgrade.
As to the trade, I think Brad getting a fourth will age well. He’s got to hit on the pick of course and down there that’s a coin flip even for the best talent evaluators.
