I’m leery of anyone that has seen success as part of a long term program/organization, particularly when they have served as less than the HC–it’s just too hard to know who the braintrust really is. I’m not ruling those guys out, just saying that I have concerns. If McVay had been HC prior to the Rams exploding and they started seeing success after they hired a new OC I could credit the guys under McVay, but they all came in at the same time so it’s hard to know.
Give me a guy with a proven track record of being creative and getting the most out of a QB like a Kubiak or from the college ranks I’d like to hear more about the guy from Texas Tech. Lane Kiffin gets a lot of credit, but Alabama has had several OC’s under Saban and has not missed a beat, so where does the credit actually belong?
