Look at Roster Make-up

@Linebusy usually posts his roster, something like this (where has he been lately). It’s a breakdown of the roster by when and how acquired. It’s almost completely a BH/MCDC roster now. Most of the players that were acquired by Quinn, have been reaffirmed by BH/MCDC by extensions (Ragnow/Walker/Will Harris/Cabinda/Fox).

2016 2018 2019 2020 2021 2022 2023
1st Round Taylor Decker Frank Ragnow Panei Sewell Aiden Hutchinson Jahmyr Gibbs
7 1st Round Jameson Williams Jack Campbell
2nd Round Levi Onwuzurike Josh Paschal Sam LaPorta
4 2nd Round Brian Branch
3rd Round Tracy Walker Will Harris Julian Okwara Alim McNeill Kerby Joseph Hendon Hooker
9 3rd Round Jonah Jackson Ifeatu Melifonwu Brodric Martin
4th Round Logan Stenberg Amon-Ra St. Brown
3 4th Round Derrick Barnes
2 5th Round James Mitchell Colby Sorsdal
6th Round Malcom Rodriguez
2 6th Round James Houston
3 7th Round Jermar Jefferson Chase Lucas Antoine Green
2 Trade Jared Goff Riley Patterson
UFA Halapoulivaati Vaitai Charles Harris Cam Sutton
UFA Alex Anzalone David Montgomery
UFA Emmanuel Moseley
UFA Jake McQuaide
UFA Gardner-Johnson
UFA Marvin Jones Jr.
10 UFA Christian Covington
1 RFA Non Tendered Kalif Raymond
Claimed Romeo Okwara Josh Reynolds John Cominsky
Claimed Brady Breeze Benito Jones
6 Claimed Savion Smith
SFA Jason Cabinda Scott Daly Isaiah Buggs Derrick Deese Jr.
SFA Jack Fox Darrin Paulo Maurice Alexander Graham Glascow
SFA Craig Reynolds Nate Sudfeld Jalen Reeves-Maybin
SFA Shane Zylstra Kayode Awosika John Parker Romo
SFA Michael Badgley Max Pircher
SFA Trinity Benson Germain Ifedi
SFA Jarren Williams
SFA Ross Pierschbacher
21 SFA Khalil Dorsey
UDFA Matt Nelson Jerry Jacobs Obinna Eze Brad Cecil
UDFA Anthony Pittman Brock Wright Greg Bell Chase Corta
UDFA Tom Kennedy Cory Durden
UDFA Connor Gavin
UDFA Steven Gilmore
UDFA Mohamed Ibrahim

UDFA Zach Morton
UDFA Trevor Nowaske
UDFA Chris Smith
UDFA Ryan Swododa
UDFA Starling Thomas V
21 UDFA Dylan Drummond
1 3 6 4 20 21 36

For purposes of this roster a guy like Romeo Okwara was claimed in 2018, so that’s what he counts as, even though he signed a 2yr RFA deal in 2019, a 3yr UFA deal in 2021 and a renegotiation in 2023. JRM counts as a SFA since he was cut earlier this year and because he went to a new team last year (Houston), he wouldn’t count as the Lions 2017 4th round pick. I count James Houston as a 6th round pick because even though he was cut, he stayed on the Lions practice squad and didn’t sign with another team.

7 - 1st Round Picks
4 - 2nd Round Picks
9 - 3rd Round Picks
3 - 4th Round Picks
2 - 5th Round Picks
2 - 6th Round Picks
3 - 7th Round Picks
2 - Trades
10 - UFA
1 - Untendered RFA (could be classified as an UFA also)
6 - Claimed Players
21 - SFA
21 - UDFA

A handful of the SFA (Street Free Agents - contracts didn’t expire, they were cut) and UDFA’s (Undrafted Free Agents) will make the team and the bulk of the practice squad will be made up of these guys.

Great post.

Would be interesting to see if any other team has ever had as bad of a run of second rounders, as the Lions had from about 2000-2021.

Fewest starters, fewest making the team, fewest lasting more than a year or two in the NFL. Fewest able to get out of bed in the morning. Abomination.

Hopefully that business is behind us.

Thanks for the work.

Wow - lots of work there – thanks!
Except for 10 people, we are a post-pandemic team!

I wonder how we rank on home grown talent (players we drafted or signed as UDFA). It has to be top half I would think.

For UDFA, will be rooting for ibrahim, Joseph, Martinez and Starling Thomas

At the start of last season we were 18th for active roster, 14th if you include PS. We should be higher this year as it will be the 3rd year in for BH/MCDC.

Great work man

Quin did a good job with the left side of the OL/C. That’s about it lol

Those 3, 2 Okwaras, Fox, Tracey & Will Harris and Big V

9 out of the 53 were here. I don’t count Cabinda because of our coaching genius to transition him.

83% is handpicked by Holmes

Those draft picks are amazing looking by Holmes top to bottom.

The fact we claimed Cominsky & Romeo is criminal lol

You are only stoking Levi Onwuzurike and sharpening his focus on proving the nattering nabobs of negativism wrong. Thank you for your service.

Quin did a great job with Fox.

Hey what’s the story with Fox and Sam Martin anyways…how did we end up with Fox when we had Sam who was also a good punter.

I love Fox don’t get me wrong

Sam stepped on a conch shell and was never the same after the injury

Basically, God wanted us to have Fox

I was over Martin after his 10 yard shank set up Dallas for the winning TD in that WC game

Quinn extended Martin in the final year his rookie contract. Two years into his extension, Martin accepted a $700K pay cut and had the 2020 season voided. At the start of the 2020 season, we offered a contract, but not as good as the one that Denver offered.

Then the Chiefs cut Fox   :star_struck: :star_struck:

Little known fact that was edited out of the bible, but before creating Adam and Eve, God created Fox.

He looks great for his age!

Don’t forget that HOLMES CUT RILEY PATTERSON

But was humble enough to admit mistake to back and trade for him the next year.

@Thats2 when you do your bumps later on year(s) down the road…put me on the list for this one broski.

Riley Patterson gonna clutch hit it and take us to the promise land

So who wins in a cage match. Fox or Chuck Norris.

Nearly impossible to know, I’d need several of Natty’s toads to answer that with any confidence.
