Man Michael Irvin is terrible as an analyst

Watching NFL Network right now and Irvin is just down right terrible
There are plenty of players turned analyst that are on TV right now that are good
McCourty on GMF is really good
But Irvin, all he does is show boat. How do they keep him on?

Warner just did a good segment on Goff with an interview of Goff

Cowboy fans is how he is still on.

I agree, he’s pretty terrible

Mush full of marbles

There are definitely those moments. Don’t know if he’s ill-prepared, hung-over or self-medicated, but there are times where he should be home on the couch rather than on the set.

also terrible at picking up women. too soon?

I think Ryan Clark is pretty good. He’s actually picking the Lions. Orlovsky is picking the Lions and Dan is also very good imho.

Irvin actually has given the Lion’s credit comparing them to Dallas back in the day in recent weeks. But he is a bit of a mumbler and appears to be coming off of a cocaine bender half the time. When you’re on a show with Skip Bayless, it makes you look like Einstein though.

You are just realizing this now?

No, but I am trying to pass time until the first game so thought I would post it…LOL

RC is also very good

LOL, just ribbing ya. Irvin was a great player and has a lot of experience, but isn’t always the best at articulating it.

That and I hate his schtick, strutting around the set all the time

I don’t think Irvin could get a job if he was starting out today. He got on air years ago when there were not as many former players doing what he is doing. What becomes obvious when listening to him discuss football is that he played in a much simpler time.

If someone puts out a no ex-Cowboys (Aikman, Irvin, Romo, etc) on TV petition. I’ll sign it.

Actually he played in a much more difficult time as a receiver! So did QBs. In the sense that defenses were allowed to play more physical back then. It makes the old dude stats more impressive imho. Today QBs are protected and so are receivers. I saw Steve Young say in a video recently that he would love to play now because his numbers would be off the charts compared to the restrictions and physicality of the game in the past.

But I do get your point in terms of the playbook itself!

I feel the same way about your posting

The Dude has the attention span of a Gnat.

Irvin is there for his bombastic personality, not for his footballing intellect in fairness. I enjoy him but he isn’t to be taken too seriously

I can’t help but notice a pattern that the good ex players doing analysis didn’t play wide receiver. I’m sure that’s coincidence and not because of the me first diva mentality a lot of receivers have.
